Some good points but many more bad points. The staff were very pleasant and polite, we can't fault that. The food was mostly very good, as expected seeing as the hotel is owned by Marco Pierre-White, though we know that he doesn't do the cooking himself, it is his team who do all that. The location of the hotel was perfect for what we wanted to do - visit the Roman Bath house in Bath. We were both given a complimentary cocktail on arrival (though this had to be claimed by 5pm on arrival day or you just wouldn't get one). There wasn't any choice of cocktails, you got what you are given. I'm not sure but I think it was a Mimosa as we were just handed it by the barman.... The gardens were typically of a Roman style, not surprising given the location and also MPW's heritage as he is half Italian I believe. They were nice, we sat in them for our arrival cocktail. They were a bit overgrown but we could still sit relatively comfortably at one of the tables. The food was good, nicely presented and always arrived very hot, and it kept the heat too. The menu was limited though, which we expected as our whole stay was bought through Wowcher and didn't expect the full whack anyway. I had poached egg one morning and part of the egg white was still not quite cooked, I put that bit aside but I'm not sure if I'd already eaten any uncooked egg before I noticed, and strangely enough I had a bad case of sickness and diarrhoea later in the middle of the night. Sides are all at an extra cost, so if, like my husband, you wanted potatoes and veg with your steak you will have to fork out an extra £5 - per side. So it cost an extra £10 just for my husband to have any veg with his steak! The steak itself was excellent, according to my husband. The breakfasts incur the same additional £5 charge if you want fresh orange juice with it, so again another £10 as we both like orange juice with our breakfasts. You do get complimentary tea or coffee with breakfast but neither of us drink that and the waitress looked at us as if we had two heads when we said no thanks to that and asked for some OJ instead. You'd think she would have just replaced the tea/coffee with the orange juice at no extra charge but that didn't happen. The cost of alcoholic drinks was ridiculous too, if you wanted another cocktail aside from your free welcome one it would have cost another £12.50, a bottle of beer is £7.50 and just a diet coke (unsure if it was a can, bottle or even draught - we didn't try to find out) was £4.95!! So if the two of us had wanted to stay in the fig tree garden and just have a few drinks without going elsewhere it could have easily cost us £100, just for one evening's drinks. But if you're thinking "Well we can just go somewhere local, buy a few cans and take them back to the room" - yes you could but if you leave ANY signs such as bottle tops or empty cans, you will get charged £40 corkage. So take any rubbish (food waste too) and put it straight

We decided to have a short break at The Rudloe as we have stayed at other MPW hotels and eaten at several of his restaurants previously. We had a seemingly good deal with a Groupon voucher so thought, why not. It is about a 3 1/2 hour drive from our home but chose a very rural and picturesque route. On arrival we were greeted very warmly and informed we were in the annex, which was just at the bottom of the driveway about 50m from the main house. The rooms are very well appointed, tastefully decorated and comfortable. The lobby of the annex could do with a little TLC as it appears somebody may have scuffed the plaster with a suitcase, but other than that it was excellent. Our voucher deal provided us with two nights accommodation, dinner and breakfast, however as others had already noted previously, so we were aware, that was just the start. The main house is very dimly lit, but that adds to the character of the place. There is a multitude of photographs by Terry O’Neill, some of MPW, famous rock and pop stars and models, some of which are a little risqué for persons of a tender persuasion bit it fits in so very well. We had a drink in the equally dimly lit but atmospheric bar adjacent to the dining room. Cocktails are freshly made at around £15 a time and a small bottle of San Miguel for £8, which is on par with most hotels. In the dining room, which has an abundance of Strelitizia type plants festooned around the tables and once again quite dark and atmospheric, we were shown to a table by the window. We were presented with the menu for the evening and a drinks menu. Be prepared, make sure you are seated when you open the wine list, cheapest bottle is £45 ranging up to £720 although you are able to buy a glass of the cheapest bottles for only £10, but read the small print, as the wine by the glass is only 100ml. The menu was very limited, three choices a fillet steak, a cod fillet or a ragu of beef over gnocchi. Sides are an additional £5 each, we had 3 sides to bulk the meal to a reasonable plate of food. We both had the fillet steak which had a chimichurri topping, it was delicious. We were then offered desserts, I only take cheese and a very nice piece of Stilton was presented with 3 biscuits. My wife asked what the berries were on the granita, as she doesn’t like blackberries, the waiter replied “ I don’t know”, not I’ll go and find out….Just I don’t know. As I said earlier the room was very comfortable but we were unfortunate on the first night to have neighbours who have no idea of how to unlock a door without waking everybody in the building. Next highlight was breakfast, again we were in the main dining room surrounded by the massive plantation. Supplements are all over the breakfast menu so be wary, we did find the included portions were ample and very delicious. I asked for the poached eggs on crushed avacado with chilli, only to be informed they had just run out of avacado…So I had the eggs on mushrooms, which was a good second

Went on a Wowcher deal, my advice is don't! They didn't honour the cocktail that clearly said was included, no alternative, no apology. Felt like we were 2nd class citizens. Having emailed them in advance to let them know I have coeliac disease, so need gluten free food options, they emailed back to say there would be options for me. However, at dinner was told that they don't do anything gluten free, no GF bread or any alternative. Same thing at breakfast - so basically if you are Coeliac you should avoid this place. Also, when checking in, we gave our credit card details as normal, no issue with that other than when we left after a very mediocre dinner, were frogmarched back to the restaurant, being told we have to pay, and lots of people try to do a runner - we felt like they were accusing us of something, when they had our card details. Anyway, on checking my credit card during the night, they had charged us twice - once in the restaurant and once by reception on the card we had left. Again, no apology, but they say they have refunded the duplicate charge which has yet to materialise. The voucher is for a 3 course dinner, bed and breakfast, but be aware, you are going to be charged of cover charges, the main courses have no vegetables or potatoes - you have to pay for these at £5 for a tiny dish of each. At breakfast, the same applies, most things are £5 supplement, even basics like beans and toast. If you need GF bread, forget it, there isn't any and they literally don't care that you have paid for this already. They don't offer any alternative e.g. I asked for some mushrooms instead of the toast, but was told I have to pay extra. Lots of other reviews on here from people feeling cheated, and we certainly feel the same way. We were drawn in by the marketing and using Marco Pierre White's name, as you think you are doing to get decent food overseen by a celebrity chef, but no, no chance of that, and rude, aggressive and surly staff, particularly in the restaurant.

Just returned from a wonderful 3 night break for my husband's birthday. It was supposed to be 2 nights but we were having such a good time that we decided to extend it. From the moment that we arrived the service was impeccable whilst still managing to be friendly. Every member of staff was a credit to the management team. Luciano looked after us remarkably, and made me feel like a VIP. He was completely in control of the room without having the arrogance that can often come with that role. We chose to stay in the main house, as we wanted to unplug from the TV for a while, and have long, lazy baths, but if you prefer a TV, and a shower the Dower House provides that. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and the pillows were amazing; like sleeping on fluffy clouds. The four eclectic lounges open to all guests, meant that there was always a space to relax, unwind and chat, whilst taking in the art work and various objects on display, or dip into one of the many books. As for the price, all I can say is, we have stayed at other hotels for a higher price without a three course evening meal being provided, and thousands of pounds of artwork to be found in your bedroom and around the building. The food was exceptional each evening, and, if you were on a budget, there was plenty on the menu without adding extras, but it was nice to have the option. If you prefer to stay in a chain, and have food supplied by a hotel catering company, from an impossibly large menu, maybe this isn't the place for you. But if you want fine dining at affordable prices in lovely surroundings, I would thoroughly recommend the Rudloe.

What a pity about this hotel. A memorable stay but for all the wrong reasons. Loved the building and the decor. The furnishings and artwork must have cost a fortune. Shame the same level of effort isn’t extended to the actual running of the hotel. Our room was freezing cold. No one in reception when I went back and still no one there when we went to dinner. After dinner the door to reception was locked. ‘You should have asked someone in the restaurant ‘ said the young lady in reception next morning. The heating is on a timer but ‘we could have given you a portable heater’. Review after review complains of cold rooms so why not just alter the timer and put the heating on? Anyway, the surly waiter was completely disinterested in his own job so I hadn’t had the heart to complicate his life further by asking about the plumbing. Dinner menu was a disappointment. Very limited, uninspired menu with inessential things like potatoes and veg all attracting a £5 supplement. That and the £2 cover charge all seems a little petty. Extremely impressive wine list though with prices ranging up to around £700 a bottle. Perhaps a little over the top when pared with fish cakes or potato gnocchi. Decided one night was enough and went to check out after breakfast but was told I would be charged for charged for two nights regardless. My credit card was immediately charged for two nights accommodation and no further discussion allowed. Having said all that, maybe risk one night (no more than that). It’s not expensive and the artwork and furnishings are certainly worth a look. A previous reviewer’s summing up said ‘style over substance’. I think ‘fur coat and no knickers’ is a more appropriate description. Shame really, with a little more thought and effort it could be fantastic.

We recently stayed at the Rudloe Arms for two nights and had a fantastic experience. This hotel is truly stunning, with each room feeling like an emporium filled with unique artwork and antiques. The multiple cosy reception rooms create a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for relaxing. Our bedroom followed the same stylish boutique design—elegant, comfortable, and well-equipped with a kettle, water, and tea and coffee. The bathroom was beautifully ornate, featuring a spacious shower and high-quality toiletries. The dining experience was exceptional, with meals of outstanding quality. Additional sides were available for those who wanted to enhance their meal. The staff were polite and attentive, providing excellent service throughout our stay. I believe kindness and respect go a long way, and we certainly received that in return. We are already looking forward to our next visit and highly recommend the Rudloe Arms for a memorable stay!

What an interesting quirky place to stay! Our room was spacious, spotless and very comfortable. We were in the Sex Pistols room and loved it. Bed was comfortable and the bathroom was lovely. Lovely walk around the gardens, yes it’s natural looking but I loved it. Restaurant food was really good. Only slight negative was it was the same menu two nights, except for one starter. And all the starters were cold ones. Having said that, they were delicious. I had steak first night and cod the second, both were very good. The drinks are not cheap but not more expensive than other places we have stayed. We had a bottle of wine on both nights and 2 sides each night and our bill was £110 on top of the cost of the stay. Breakfast was good and there was plenty. The staff were great but not intrusive and we had a lovely relaxed 2 days with a visit to Bath. All in all it was a really good weekend.

Have to say after reading reviews after booking I had low expectations…. We were very pleasantly surprised! It was such a fabulous place to stay quirky/interesting/ so friendly… food was great and yes there’s supplements if you want certain extras but when you’re paying special offer prices it wasn’t unreasonable…. Evening menu a little limited but we’ll presented and delicious… breakfast plenty of choice and great coffee!!! The only reason I gave 4* felt the drinks were very expensive which was a shame… Ignore the poor reviews!!! Some folk just love to moan!!! Erica & Drew

We have just got back from a two night stay and we were very impressed with everything ( definitely going back in may time) Ebony who checked us in was wonderful (we know about the mistake about the cocktails, not their fault) room was amazing, loved the bed (and the pillows so comfy) the evening meal was fantastic ( I know you have to pay extra for sides or a steak but you have to in a lot of refined restaurants) service was very professional and got quite chatty with some of them Loved the breakfast too just what we love We walked around some of the grounds and can wait to go back in the late spring early summer it’s bound to be amazing Once again thank you for a great weekend
