R2 Higos Beach

Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Higos Beach apartments to anyone. We are currently halfway through a 7 night stay and have already booked for next year, with R2 directly. All apartments are great, but if you can, get one with an ocean view… Staff are welcoming and super efficient. Breakfast is of a very good standard, with great choice. Swimming pool is heated more than enough to take the chill off, whilst still a refreshing way to cool down should you need to. As with all areas, it’s very well kept. Gym is spacious and consists of 2 exercise bikes, 2 cross trainer and 2 treadmills, alongside a weigh machine and free weights. Roof top bar is a must! Views are fab and it’s lovely and peaceful. Food & drink at both pool bar & roof top bar is good and very reasonably priced. Surrounding area is fairly quiet, with a selection of restaurants. Would recommend Terraza del gato, which is just a few minutes walk away. Should you wish to eat in, the apartments are all equipped with all the utensils you may need, along with a small combination oven/microwave and a 2 ringed hob. Looking forward to our return journey already 😊 Thank you for a great holiday.

Firstly, this place is FANTASTIC! We stayed for two weeks. Did not see any insects (ants, mosquitoes etc). The main pool is 1.3 meters deep everywhere. The apartments are very modern and clean. The pool area is the cleanest I have have ever seen. The sunbeds are not allowed to be moved and you are not allowed to eat food on them. The umbrellas are unbelievably heavy and could cause injury if not moved carefully. The regular SOS Lifeguard will move them for you and he is the best Lifeguard I have come across. The Management should be very proud of him.However, when he had a day off his replacements are very poor. One refuses to help any one, including the female bar staff. The other one (a lady) sat by the gym and looked at her mobile phone all day. The pool is warm enough. A large beer is 4.5 euros. The bar snacks/meals are very reasonable. However, we had to send a Lasagne back to the kitchen as it was cold inside. When it returned it was too hot and when it had cooled my partner's meal had gone cool. There many English channels between numbers 854 and 862 including BBC 1,2 &4 and ITV and Channel 5. The paperwork in the apartment is not correct regarding available channels. We traveled with JET2. The driver dropped us off approx half a mile from the apartments because he could not be bothered to take us all the way. At the airport the Jet2 rep tells everyone the pick up point is where you get dropped off. The pick up point was actually at the apartments which caused us a lot of stress and confusion and we could have missed our connection. I would recommend this for adults wanting a quiet and relaxing holiday.

The accommodation itself was outstanding - strongly recommend the relatively modest upgrade to get the unit with private pool. The breakfast was generally excellent as well. But there are some management issues keeping this place in the 4 zone rather than a true five. The restaurant and housekeeping staff were excellent but there was a bit of indifference from the front desk (particularly around being responsive about certain requests) and especially the closure of the restaurant and bars after 6pm. There are limited amenities in the immediate area, and no bars as such, which limits the sociability of the holiday experience. Additionally, policies like banning food in the pool loungers and not heating the "heated" pool were disappointing as well. The accommodations themselves are reason enough to stay here. But to get to the next level, the hotel needs to sort these management issues.

We had a wonderful 2 week stay at this hotel. The rooms were thoughtfully equipped, with everything needed to make a comfortable stay and self cater, if wished. Unlike the comment in a previous review, we found the bed extremely comfortable, it's all a matter of taste. Our top floor apartment was spacious, furnished with a table, chairs and one sunbed, but the highlight was the amazing view over the bay to the volcanic mountains beyond. The rooms below had larger balconies and two sunbeds but we preferred the better view from ours. The whole complex, including our apartment was cleaned to a high standard. With the beach a few steps away in one direction and the supermarket a similar distance in the other, the hotel is ideally placed. I would recommend hiring a car through the hotel as it was so well organised and simple. All members of staff were helpful and friendly.

This hotel is fabulous, it is split in 2 and is divided by a road. Our apartment was across the road from the main hotel. Staff on arrival were excellent. We were given wristbands which took a bit of figuring out. But they were fine, you can use these to open your room and pay for everything if you wish. You can also pay cash. The apartment was large, it has a separate bedroom. It was gorgeous, modern, spacious, immaculately clean. There is adequate self catering utensils for 2, with a small amount of washing up stuff already there. There are also laundry facilities in the hotel. The balcony was big with a table and chairs and 2 sun loungers. It had artificial grass. Our room looked towards a small pool which, when I enquired why it was roped off, was told it hadn't yet been commissioned. This was a great shame. The bed was enormous (2 large singles pushed together) but it was very hard. My partner had a sore back from sleeping on it. The bathroom was lovely with a supply of soap and shower gel etc. There were 2 smart TVs but no English TV channels except 3 news channels. Luckily we used the smart TVs for Netflix etc. The main pool is very laid back with great sunbeds. There is also a bar and restaurant but unfortunately the whole hotel closes early in the evening. There is a sky bar which is great with amazing views but it also closes early, which is such a shame. It did have 1 evening where they played music. Drinks and food were expensive in the hotel but also all over Costa Calma. The resort and hotel are German orientated. There is a poor choice of restaurants and we didn't find any great bars. The whole resort is amazingly quiet. This hotel is a short walk to a great beach and a 10 minute walk to the main part of the village where the supermarkets are. The supermarkets had a great choice of foods. All in all a great hotel which was spoiled by early closing. I'd give the hotel 4+ stars. The resort just was not for us, it was depressingly quiet. I would not go back to Costa Calma for this reason.

Absolutely stunning 10/10 We came here for very last minute bit of summer sun , and from the moment we arrived we couldn’t believe how modern, spotlessly clean , and friendly this place was, the location was absolutely perfect , right by the beach , our apartment /room was huge and we had everything we needed , they also provided beach towels , and water bottle for your room that you can fill up at filling station at pool area as often as you like , the rooms have everything you need , ( you can ask for toaster if you need one ) we asked for an iron and it was provided , the balcony was huge , we ate on our balcony a few tines as it also has table and chairs as well as sun loungers , the staff were really friendly , we went self catering so we didn’t try the food but it looked delicious from what we seen , and there’s cocktails and beers. Wine, soft drinks etc, there is a good selection of restaurants /bars that are close by , also shops to bit fresh bakery goods , milk bacon sausages snacks etc they have everything you need for self catering , we bought wine for the room also , we rented a car through the hotel and went to Corralejo for the day which had a lot more shops like Zara etc and lots more bars and restaurants and is busy so I’d recommend to do that ,the hotel is in a really quiet part in Costa calma , so it was lovely and relaxing , we watched the sunrise and sunset every day , the sun loungers are extremely comfortable and are made to fit two people , we were seriously impressed by this hotel and don’t have one fault as it was absolutely perfect , thanks for all the staff I made our stay so memorable, Pamela & Ewan xx
