I was really worried about our holiday after reading previous reviews so I thought I should reassure people who have booked. The hotel is big, there’s a big pool and plenty of sun beds. A lifeguard regularly comes round and checks if they are being used and if not they’ll put a note on which you can remove if you’re there but otherwise your things will be removed for you to collect if you’ve been gone for over an hour. This is actually a really good way to make sure those who need a sun bed get one. The rooms are big and clean with air con. The safe costs €3 a day. In the all inclusive is breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as crisps and some pots of ice cream. You can buy other ice creams and cocktails or upgrade to imperial all inclusive for €45 a day. The meals were fine - lots and lots of choice. Always a lot of fish and meat, breads, always pasta (which can be plain) and pizza. It was all fine but became a bit dull as the week went on but as I had a fussy eater I was just glad there was always something simple for him to have. The beach nearby is beautiful but there aren’t sun beds or parasols to hire there so the hotel is missing a trick not hiring them out but all the Spanish guests seem to bring their own with them. It is a Spanish resort although we met lots of British guests too. The staff are amazing and are brilliant at trying to translate our needs. Practice a few simple phrases and please and thank you as I think British people forget it’s an ‘us problem’ that we’re in a different country and don’t speak the language. Location wise it is very remote and other than the beach there’s not much around. We found a pizzeria a 15 min walk away which was ok. The restaurant on the beach didn’t have good service and forgot half our meals. The Naos restaurant by the beach on the edge of the hotel was good but if you’re after a bit more to get out to or eat out then you’ll need transport. A lot of people cycle. A lovely, relaxing holiday which I was pleasantly surprised about.

If you're like me you'll be checking reviews daily worried about your stay, well here we are.... Currently at playaballena and it's exceeded all expectations. If you don't have kids then maybe give this a miss as they are absolutely superb with families and young children. Food has been absolutely spot on with plenty of choice for picky eaters. Pool area clean and well maintained, lifeguards ensure sun beds aren't reserved by absent holidaymakers. Kids disco is superb and pool entertainment is on point, loads to do and the hotel backs onto the beach with a private gate and shower. Pool closes at 8 which is perfect for quiet evenings, entertainment starts late but to be expected with the hot weather. Overall highly recommend for families, I've travelled with a 2 and 5 year old and it's been spot on. And yes it's all Spanish but we are in Spain!

Great place to stay. Very little English spoken but that's ok, Google translate works good enough for 90% of questions. The WiFi is dismal, didn't work in the rooms at all, just used data roaming all week.

I will start with saying the maids were amazing my room was spotless. The bottom of the pool was filthy, my son even found food at the bottom. The all inclusive restaurant was just beyond unhygienic. Birds flying in and eating the large stack of bread, food being served raw, dirty tables. The sections around the food were disgusting. Picked up bowls and plates on numerous days to find old food imbedded on them. 3 out of 4 of my party had sickness whilst we were there. We were also not informed about the roof terrace restaurant. All in all just extremely disappointing

We have just returned from a week at this hotel. We are a family of four with two young children and this hotel did not disappoint! The reason for the 4 star is the lack of English speaking staff which made it hard to communicate, especially at the mini club when dropping my son off. However, even though there was a language barrier, the staff were super friendly, our children loved them all! A special shout out to the animation team. They work so hard day and night keeping all guests entertained. The live shows on an evening were incredible!! The rooms themselves were extremely clean and the beds were very comfy. The food served was variable, great choice for all inc. there weren’t very many local restaurants, but enough to get you by for the week if you fancy a change. The beach was beautiful, with a nice little park nearby for the children. There is a gate at the bottom of the hotel when you can swipe your room key for instant access to the beach! When you return via the same gate, there are showers for the hotel guests to use, so you don’t need to use the public showers on the beach. All in all, an extremely relaxing holiday in a lovely hotel.
