The house known as the 'Captain's Quarters' sits at the forest's edge, set back from the road and tucked into a very private estate. A four year build, (completed in 2008), it is filled with modern luxuries such as a gourmet kitchen, beautiful bluestone gas fireplace, radiant heated floors, a spa bath, air conditioning and wifi internet. Though the amenities are modern, the 'feel' of the home is steeped in an old world charm and beauty. Built with a love for the art, nothing was overlooked. From the heavy Douglas fir timbers, to the ornate cast iron radiators, much was borrowed from days gone by and re purposed here. Details in brass, marble, red wood, granite, copper, maple, limestone, and stained glass are to be found throughout.This home was designed with friends and family in mind, and so is very social and entertains beautifully. It is truly a pleasure to experience!The house is surrounded by gorgeous natural landscapes. White pines tower above mossy cliffs and rocky outcroppings. Wild life big and small weave through the trees. Sweeping cedars huddle and lean into each other. Colorful maples surround it all, both glowing over, and shading the acreage. There's even a pretty forest pond for the frogs and ducks, and ice skating come winter, that sits below a cozy 'lighthouse' on the bluff. And now we have a large pond nestled between the cliffs and the house with a beautiful pavilion to sit and enjoy the ducks and dragonfly's go by. Not to mention all the birds coming and going. (five bird feeders)The property adjoins hundreds of acres of diverse designated 'green spaces' that are woven with miles of walking and cross country ski trails. And if you like e-bikes, we have those available too. And Hartley Recreational area but a short peddle away.This house is located in the perfect part of Duluth. The Carriage House has everything you need to relax and listen to the waves for a private and up-close experience. Fully air-conditioned to make your stay comfortable on those warm days and an electric fireplace for a cozy setting on a cold day.OUTDOOR PATIO & DECKA lower walkout patio offers outdoor lounge furniture, accent lighting, fire pit, a gas grill, and a gas patio flute heater to keep everyone comfortable while providing beautiful ambiance on a lake evening. Just feet from the shore, the lower grass terrace offers sparkling views of the moon rise over the water or the warm glow from the fire pit. Firewood is stacked and onsite for your use. This terrace is situated on an 8’ overlook providing stunning views with stair access to the water. On calm days, take the kayak/paddle board combos (2 available) down to the water and glide across the clear lake for a refreshing recharge.BEDROOM & SLEEPThe master bedroom is located on the upper floor and is outfitted with comfortable and luxury class king size Stearns and Foster mattress for a restful night's sleep on a modern platform bed. The master bedroom has a full bathroom and TV. For additional sleeping arrangements, there is a pull-out couch located in the lower level.KITCHENThe kitchen is fully equipped with stunning views of Lake Superior from the main floor kitchen and living room. A walkout deck overlooks Lake Superior and offers a relaxing and refreshing spot for morning coffee on the lounge furniture. The kitchen is stocked with a KEURIG one-cup coffee maker with stocked variety of coffee flavors, basket of snacks, toaster, blender, silverware, glasses, ice-maker, and all your daily kitchen cooking items and dishes. LOWER LEVELThe lower level features a walkout patio, a den area with views of Lake Superior, a full bathroom, pull-out couch, board games, life vests, beaches towels, TV, and a washer and dryer. SMART TV & INTERNETThe Carriage House is equipped with Roku Smart TV's to live steam free content or connect the Roku TV to your paid subscription services. The Roku Smart TV's have a "Guest Mode" that allows you to identify your check in and out dates and the Roku Smart TV will automatically log you out of your subscription services on your departure date. Once you walk into the property, table top placards will identify the passcodes to connect your device(s) to free high speed internet. LOCATIONThe Carriage House is located at the start of the popular North Shore of Lake Superior while located close to the canal, restaurants, entertainment, and downtown Duluth. It is located only two (2) blocks from Brighton Beach Park (Kitchi Gammi) and Lester River Park for great hiking or mountain biking. A grocery store is within two (2) blocks. The Carriage House in on the lakeside of London Road, and is a single family home.
