Welcome to our Paw Paw getaway. Our family has enjoyed Paw Paw for decades and has decided to share that joy with others. Tucked away past the dam you will find the Paw Paw Cottage. A quaint cedar shake 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage with a large yard and dock. This cottage is perfect for a small family or couple that wants to just get away and relax. Breathtaking views of the sunrise over Maple Lake pierce the east facing windows. Steam rises from the lake as the Blue Heron makes his usual fishing stop at the end of the dock. Morning fishermen troll along the lakes edge and disappear into the cove. Enjoying a fresh cup of coffee while taking in all the sights is simply joyful. For the adventurous soul there are 2 paddle boards of differing lengths and 2 kayaks in the garage. They are very easy to use and will provide a fun and relaxing time on the water. Also available is a lily pad float for the kids and a small inflatable boat. Don't forget to paddle to the island and walk along the sandy shore. Nearby we have the famous St. Julian Winery. A family tradition dating back many decades. I would recommend a tour. And a wine tasting! :) A little over 30 minutes away is the town of South Haven. One of the most beautiful beach towns in all of Michigan. Highly recommended! This is a great place to get away from the everyday stress. It sits on a 7 acre partial. On a all sport lake. A wonderful walk to the private frontage. It is attached to the calhaven trail mile marker 13. It is also right next to public land which is an additional 9 acres to Rome on. You are only 15 minutes from South Haven. There are grocery stores within 5 minutes. There is a bar and restaurants only 5 minutes away. There is only 18 neighbors on the whole lake. The Blue Cottage at North Lake has been completely refurbished with 2 main levels featuring a modern yet rustic lake house atmosphere. Our guests are surprised and elated at how clean/spotless we keep our cottage! NEW Fiber-optic Internet Speeds. The kitchen features new appliances and is well stocked. The large new deck is a great place to dine and absorb the beautiful sunsets. North Lake is a 65-foot deep, 132-acre spring-fed lake where water recreation is fun and easy with a nice sandy beach, clear water, a new dock, and many water toys including kayaks and paddle boards. A new Bennington Pontoon Boat is rentable. North Lake has great fishing with many bass, perch, and blue gill ready to strike your lure. Adirondack chairs surround the fire pit and two new large TVs offer additional nighttime entertainment in addition to star gazing from the pier. For families, a big bonus is that the kids can watch their TV shows and shut the downstairs door while the adults watch Netflix, Hulu, the Lions, or whatever :). Location: 35 minutes from Lake Michigan, 20 minutes from downtown Kalamazoo, and 15 minutes from Meijers. Lake Michigan resort towns such as South Haven, Saugatuck, and Holland are less than 1 hour away. Relax and "unplug" in our cottage nestled on a wooded hill overlooking our access to a 187 acre rural lake; a great "home base" while exploring SW Michigan (Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids and Lake Michigan). Numerous golf courses, wineries, breweries nearby, featuring plenty of seasonal family activities. Two ski resorts within 15 min--Timber Ridge (with tubing runs) and Bittersweet.Newly added automatic generator in the case the power goes out!The cottage is in a rural setting with little light pollution; the stars, the lake, the woods are beautiful and serene. Closest town is five miles away with grocery, gas, entertainment, hiking/biking and dining options; and a rural convenience store is 1 - 1/2 miles away. Guests should expect to drive 20+ min to a major grocery chain and/or urban attractions or events. Cottage is very nearly center of Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Holland, St. Joseph and lake shore, so it offers a great "home base" for exploring Southwest Michigan.If you are visiting in summer please know that even though we spray for bugs and clean corners, etc. on a regular basis, the house is on a lake and in the woods, so it is very likely you will encounter bugs. Among those you will encounter are Mayflies. They do not bite or sting (have no mouth), are very abundant for short durations, and they are attracted to light. The major appliances include a microwave, a fridge, a range, a drip coffee maker, a toaster, a crock pot, a blender, and an electric skillet. We do our best to keep the essentials stocked in the pantry such as coffee filters, coffee, sugar/sweetener, salt, pepper, oil, etc. We also have a well stocked selection of pots, pans, and other cooking utensils. If you need anything specific, just ask! The open floor plan allows you to freely move around the kitchen and dining without feeling cramped. There are boat rentals available just across the river and our guests have loved being able to rent a boat for the week, boat down to South Haven's marina, and park for a few hours to grab a bite to eat or chill on the beach. With Lake Michigan, about 30 minutes downriver by boat (no wake zone), take full advantage of the amazing fishing and water sports the big blue lake has to offer.The other three slips are actively being used by other boaters. A pack n' play is available to keep your baby safe while playing or napping.Right in the living room is a conversational couch, which is also a queen-size, pull-out sofa. Across from it, is the entertainment area, where you can watch movies and play board games. A game table on the side of the room has been set up for your convenience. There's a reading nook with a couple of recliner chairs and personal reading lamps.The 3-season porch has been our guests' favorite space! Enjoy the breeze and beauty of the outdoors, while comfortably sitting in the porch. There's a furnished outdoor deck that's available to use from spring to early fall. Also available are the grill, picnic tables, and a bonfire pit. The home sits on 1.22 acres so there's plenty of room to set up yard games: bean bag toss, croquet, basketball.Lastly, if you're heading out to the beach, remember to grab some beach toys and portable chairs from the garage -- all available for your use and enjoyment!We are very excited to share our home with you!
