The Four Seasons Hotel

Beautiful Chalet, we had no mobile service and WiFi (in the chalet, the hotel had WiFi!) but as we both used to live on a rural island ourselves that frequently had no mobile service, it was actually really nice to unplug and recuperate. Chalet clean, bed comfortable and was surprised there was a bath! The little rubber duck at the bath was a lovely touch, same with the hot water bottles provided (although I brought my own, it was something I hadn't expected!) We stayed for my partner's birthday. Every encounter with the staff was pleasant and they seemed very knowledgeable. We had intended on going for breakfast at the hotel both days but ended up sleeping in instead (which was also nice!) Definitely will be staying again for longer in the future, was the lazy cosy break we definitely needed.

We thought we would stay at this hotel as it was overlooking the fabulous loch and dog friendly. We were met by a very friendly lady who booked us in and told us we could get an evening meal. are room was dated and definitely in need of some new furniture and a makeover but seemed clean, the bathroom was very dated and the cold tap didn’t work, there was rust around the taps and no hot water for a bath. We went to get an evening meal, the girl on the bar gave us a menu which was for the restaurant this seemed far too expensive for the type and choice of food, plus you couldn’t just have a main meal it was for two or three course which we didn’t want, we asked if we could just have a mains to be told no it’s two or three. We then asked if there was a bar menu, there was and we ordered food to take to our room, scampi & chips hand cut chips and a burger, we paid an extra £2 for a thin slice of cheese and a slice of onion ( that should have been chutney. Our food came in a takeaway cardboard dish, no cutlery, no condiments, I asked for vinegar and was told that there was none and she’d never been ask for it before but would check with the chef. We took our food to the room with a jug of vinegar that the chef had found. We felt that the food was definitely not worth £19 for a few frozen scampis and thin (some not cooked enough) fries and cold garden peas, the burger was £15 and was definitely not worth £15, we don’t mind paying this price or more if the food is good. We paid £130 for the room which we thought was with breakfast but told it wasn’t and we would have to pay extra, we did not stay for breakfast as the evening meal was so poor we wasn’t going to chance it. It would have cost them nothing to have put our food on a tray with cutlery and condiments and a serviette to take to our room it would have made such a difference. The view from the window in the room was amazing.

Arrived late afternoon on first summer bank holiday Monday to be curtly told on arrival that the kitchen was closed until Thursday and there would only be continental breakfast. The information is on their website but far from obvious. Still charged GBP 150! Entered the bedroom to the strong smell of toilet disinfectant. Opened window to clear the smell. Then closed the window and turned on radiator. It was 50oF. Fifteen minutes later no heat whatsoever. Checked with reception about heating to be told “The heating is off for the season!” A portable electric heater was brought to our room. Following morning after lathering on the shower gel discovered it was impossible to have more than twenty SECONDS of a tolerable warm shower. The water varied between Scottish loch cold or unbearably hot water. Highlight of our stay was leaving the establishment.

When I booked in the receptionist told me I still had to pay. I said this wasn't right. She insisted as I'd booked through *******. She looked at the book and saw I was right. I paid extra for a superior lake view double or twin room. It was a very standard corner room with one of the smallest windows. You saw the lake if stood at an angle and put your head outside. Don't know what standard rooms looked like. I was told it was refurbished. It smelled of paint and the wallpaper was bubbled. Not only was the bath cream and dated, the furniture was dated too. I booked en suite but couldn't see a bathroom until I opened the wardrobe door and saw another door that led to a bathroom. Bit of the wizard of oz. The bit that made me want to let other people know is when I told her I'd paid extra for a superior lake view. She actually said "rubbish" . She didn't believe I had because I'd booked it through ******* so i paid for what i got. Seemed to have a dislike for poor *******. Although the place was clean, describing the room as a superior lake view is false advertising

We stayed in the Beatles Chalet at the top of the hill with a really nice view onto the loch, when we arrived we had a lovely cheeseboard waiting for us in our room and a bottle of wine (we had booked a stay that allocated this), and it was really nice after a long days driving. It’s the perfect location for exploring, you do need to have your own car but that’s expected for any remote Scottish location. There’s some wonderful places to explore, for the adventurous and the more the chilled types. Close to the Aberfeldy distillery and yummy chocolate shops and the crannog centre. Coming back to the bar with the spectacular views, and Finn the lovely Labrador receptionist was just perfect. The chalet was clean, warm, had a nice bath and was perfect for a chilled, Scottish adventure stay. Thank you for hosting us :)

Spent a two night stay in room 17 which was lovely. Warm and clean, very comfortable 4 poster bed and beautiful view of the loch. A good sized bathroom..with a highland cow in the shower , duck in the bath and two little mice in the skirting board...of course not real !! Very warm welcome from Susan on arrival Resident canine receptionist not on duty during our stay but Finn left a lovely letter for Annie our cocker spaniel. Evening meals were delicious . Bought some nice salad dressing from the adjoining deli. This hotel does not charge for dogs and they are allowed in the dining room A truly dog friendly hotel.

The hotel overlooks Loch Earn so has wonderful views across the lake to the mountains and hills. If you are in a lake-facing room note that windows are single-glazing so any strong wind is noisy and even in June, the heating was on. The room was still cold. Your cooked breakfast is done on order and is small, and if you don't want that, there is cereal and toast. On our second day, the chef had a day off so it was continental only. So there were meats, cheeses, and pastries. None of these were available the day before. The staff were friendly but overall I felt that it could be better. It was nice enough but we felt the images on the website over-promised and did not represent the real level of the hotel.

We called into the hotel for some coffee and scones after a walk and were given a fantastic welcome by Susan, the owner. The fresh scones are served with cream and jam - delicious. We also visited the lovely Little Larder shop and managed to pick up some reasonably priced Scottish gifts for family. Watch out for beautiful Finn the black labrador, who is often behind the reception desk - a real star.

The staff were lovely and attentive. The location couldn't have been any better. It was serene with unspoilt views of the gorgeous Loch. We therefore got an amazing sleep but I think there are a few things they could do to make it 5 stars. The lodges could do with a bit of an upgrade. The lock of the door didn't seem the most secure, the TV was smaller than my laptop and the heating didn't really warm up the room. But we did have a lovely time away.
