Not only is the Hospitality House unique for its history and artifacts, but all aspects of an enjoyable stay are provided. The hospital was built in 1901 and it has now been refurbished into beautiful rooms. There is interesting old medical equipment as well as antique record players and other old memorabilia. The rooms are gorgeous with high ceilings, lovely wall paper, and wood furnishings. The grounds were quiet and the location is a few blocks away from the casinos. Coffee and tea was served in a room straight out of a museum with the old stove. There are balconies to sit on, as well as outdoor tables. I enjoyed all the hummingbirds in front of the hotel. The TV and WiFi worked well. All the staff I interacted with were extremely friendly- including the owner and his mother. There is self service laundry. Breakfast is served outside from a food truck. The hot options were great- much nicer than chain hotels. Eating under the pine trees was so relaxing. You can also order ahead and eat in your room-they provide trays so you have a place to eat. I enjoyed talking to some other guests and the owner while I was eating my breakfast burrito. A few minor details- there is no air conditioning and no fan was provided. I opened my windows, but in July my room didn’t cool down much during the night. There is no elevator, so plan on carrying luggage up the steps. There are no amenities like pool, hot tub, or fitness center. There weren’t any walking paths directly from the hotel, so if you want to walk for exercise you’d have to walk on the roads. If you want lunch or dinner, you have to drive somewhere. There is more to Cripple Creek than just the casinos. There is a railroad and some museums. Don’t make the mistake that I did and only book for one night. I wished I had booked two nights and I hated to leave!
