Jinyuyuan China Australia Youth Hostel

Great place! Nice owners, good facilities and fun to stay at. A bit outside the ancient city but it’s a short walk and one of the best VFM I’ve had in China.

The usual hostel is undergoing renovations at the moment, so the actual accommodation is around the corner. I was quite lost until I texted the 'late entrance' phone number by chance and the owners father found me. There is no bar, pool table or restaurant currently accessible but I'm sure it will be great when it reopens. The room was lovely but very cold with a big gap under the door and a hole the size of a postcard in the bathroom. I think a more updated profile to reflect current amenities would be beneficial.

The staff are very helpful. They are very enthusiastic when they tried to help me rent a bike and call a taxi in early morning. The hotel is right opposite the old town, very convenient. I should recommend everyone this place if they want to stay near the old town.

Song and Dave speak excellent English and Song especially was very helpful and apologetic about only having a room with two single beds rather than the double we booked (a conflict between bookings made on Trip & C-trip). Nevertheless the beds were comfortable and we slept well. Room was clean and tidy although no toilet paper and the flexible shower broken (large overhead shower working). No kettle in room but community water boiler on ground floor in courtyard. Nice atmosphere in hotel and architecturally satisfying, great views from roof where there is a place to do laundry and hang clothes to dry. Short walk to ancient town, and the neighborhood around the hotel also worth exploring. Recommended.

The name of this hostel is Jade Emu - Jinyuyuan in Chinese. The location on Trip was out by a couple of streets and I ended up at Lily Pad hostel which was signposted nearby to ask for their help. The boy on reception was sweet and tried to be helpful but unfortunately he didn't know the answers to most of my questions, such as the route to the cable car for the mountain which is fairly close by but I would recommend still booking a taxi (30 min walk uphill). The room was large but very cold in January. There is an electric blanket but no other heating and sliding single glaze doors. Its walking distance (8 mins) from the old town across a busy road. This hostel has seen better days and perhaps the staff will have updated training with hopefully tourists arriving in the near future.
