Stayed at Alaya Heritage Resort in Darjeeling for 3 days, booked 2 rooms. Disappointing experience overall. The property's name suggests a heritage charm, but it was far from it. The resort is old and poorly maintained. With only 14 rooms spread across 3 floors, accessibility is a challenge, especially for the 3rd floor, requiring a daunting climb of 73 steps due to the absence of a lift. Rooms were subpar, with a persistent foul smell and dampness evident on the walls. Bathrooms were particularly unpleasant, featuring broken flooring, missing amenities like showers, and toiletries carelessly placed outside due to the lack of shelving. Complimentary breakfast offered limited options. Frustratingly, the coffee powder ran out on the first day, leading to a makeshift solution of raiding guest rooms for coffee pouches. While the staff was polite, they were unable to address issues promptly. I had to personally request a plumber to fix toilet sheets. This led to prolonged discussions, taking away precious vacation time. Despite booking through Goibibo, which rated the hotel with 4 stars, the reality fell far short of expectations. An upgrade to a 'family room' was done only for 1 room which has all the same issues except it had an extra single bed. Furthermore, the location alongside a busy road meant constant disturbance from traffic noise, disrupting any chance of a peaceful stay. Ultimately, the amount paid was unjustifiable for the quality of the stay. It was a regrettable experience, turning what should have been a relaxing vacation into a frustrating ordeal. Would strongly advise against booking unless absolutely necessary.
