Himalayan Odyssey - Kolakham

We booked two rooms for two nights in August 2023. Both rooms that were booked were mountain facing. However we found one room to be very smelly probably because of the rainy season, because of which we were to move to another room which was not mountain facing. Considering the remoteness of the area the rooms are very basic. No TV/wifi. Overall the bed and the covers were clean as well as the bathroom was clean and functional. Few things that were not so good was the hospitality was very cold and there was practically no service at all. Also the food, which is calculated as extra per head, is very oily and taste is below average

The Himalayan Odyssey is a homely homestay in Kolakham village, comprising around 50-60 nepali families. A quiet n picturesque place with a large no of homestays. Kolkham is situated within Neora valley reserve forest near Lava( 7-8 kms). At 6200 ft. The approach road from Lava through the jungle is kachcha forest pathway-, pebbles covered. People with bad spine- don't go. It's a veritable paradise for bird watchers. On a clear day( alas! We weren't so lucky) you can see Kanchenjunga et al clearly from the Himalayan Odyssey terrace n hills view rooms. Homestay owner partner Aniruddh Sur is a civilised gentleman. Caretaker Kumar Rai, an affable n ever smiling fella and his mother Kumari is a good cook and a beautiful hostess. All in all a pleasant ambience. Cost of hill view rooms 2500. Other rooms 2000. Food per person 600 per day.

Neat - beautiful - exotic views - good warm food and people who serve! Such a beautifully done boutique stay with direct view of Kanchanjunga. White sheets make it sophisticated and the decor is so beautiful!
