Holiday Inn Express Daytona Beach - Speedway, an IHG Hotel

This use to be my favorite hotel. I decided to bring my family for a "Before School" holiday. I understand times change and everyone has a bad day, but I am concerned about what is considered SERVICE now. Let me start with the Good. Some of my favorite people still work there. Andrea, Alona, and even though I didn't see her, the manager Lona. I had to ask if she was still there and if the same owners owned the hotel. The Bad. There are 2 industrial fans in the lobby. Couldn't use the back breakfast area because of the heat. Florida is too hot to not have ac. I understand it has been out for months. The room was not what I was use to. Clean, but not polished. The damp smell probably because of the ac. Now the ugly. I am use to this staff being friendly and a little quirky, but I am slightly embarrassed by what my family and I encountered for 3 days. The lady overnight Sunday was a complete nutball ( and that is putting it lightly) and not helpful at all. Jada was helpful (when we could find her) but not friendly at all. The breakfast.....usually a high point, was reduced to a truck stop diner or a construction site food truck. The breakfast area wasn't clean, it was hot, the food wasn't presentable or good. My family wanted to go out to eat but I remember biscuits, perfect eggs, on special occassions....grits. It never got better. The breakfast person was loud, rude, inattentive, and kind of trashy. I never saw her in gloves, never washed her hands, spent more time at the front desk, wasn't ever in a uniform. Was barely ever in the breakfast room. I am sad writing this. I have met the owner. Pretty cool guy but he needs to see what is going on . Lona, I hope you are able to turn this back to the hotel I loved. I am sorry to send it this way but I feel like you can truly share this with your staff and they will see this from the guest's pov. My family is doubting all of my suggestions now, but I am hoping we could all recover.

Martin was amazing. He went above and beyond to make our stay an excellent experience. When we walked in the door, he warmly greeted us, ran upstairs to make sure our room was ready, and then checked back with us to make sure everything we good.

It was clean and comfortable The hotel was clean and recently renovated it about 6 years ago. Plenty of lit parking, good breakfast. In the room was a refrigerator microwave and a Keurig for coffee for a sitting area with a big shower with a tub. Front desk and breakfast staff were conversational and fun. We arrived at 3:30 even though check-in was at 4:00 but they found a room for us and got us in for the afternoon.

After a 6 hour car ride we checked into the hotel, went to our room and found it cold. I turned up the heat but got no response from the HVAC unit. I called the front desk and was told that the room had been vacant and to give it about ten minutes to warm up. After ten minutes, no change, I called back to the front desk to inform them. I was told that they were trying to locate a SPACE HEATER. I told them that I would not sleep in a room with a space heater and wanted a different room. They informed me that they had no rooms available, did I want to check out. I asked them to find me a room for the same price at one of the other IHG properties in the area to which I was told that there were no other hotels. We left.

Although it is right next to the airport, I never heard the planes from inside my room. Located just off I-95 and very close to restaurants and attractions, the room was nice and clean. I had a handicap accessible room, as I have to use a scooter. The only issue was the room was on the 2nd floor. Upon check in, the front desk clerk, closed the desk and assisted me with all my luggage taking it to the room. I did not eat any of the breakfast but it did smell good ! I was very pleased with my 3 night stay here and I highly recommend this property. Yes, it is not one the beach, but it was a whole lot cheaper too !

I typically stay in Marriott or Hilton because my husband and I are rewards members of both hotel chains.However, I may need to re-evaluate utilizing IHG hotels more often after the excellent experience I had at the Holiday Express Daytona Beach International Speedway. The hotel was affordable, amazingly convenient (across the street from airport),and clean.The room was spacious, modern, and clean. Though the accommodations were excellent, the true highlight of this hotel is the staff as has been stated by many others. Every single staff member was pleasant and more than willing to help with any request we made. I want to especially acknowledge Tori who was so very patient and accommodating to me and my children doing check in. My children were a little rambunctious after an early morning and flight, but she couldn’t have been nicer or more understanding. I hope IHG Corporate is taking notice of this hotel. If you are in Daytona, especially if you are traveling with kids, do not hesitate to book this hotel!
