It would have 1 star but the redeeming factor in a terrible stay was the finely dressed, charming gentleman at breakfast who made delicious coffee and made me leave feeling happier - thank you! Not normally our kind of place but we were staying for a wedding. Really wish we'd booked The Old Bell Inn instead! Be aware that there are no signs for the hotel as you drive up with it on the right, we went straight past as did lots of others and there are no turning points for ages. The large sign coming at the hotel from the other way is obvious - why isn't there one on the other side? Into the carpark, 2 buildings one at either end but no sign for reception. Eventually found a small one behind a tree! Couldn't see any disabled parking spaces! Check in not very welcoming to start and then when she started describing all the staircases, I asked for the lift as I'm disabled and can't walk far, especially stairs. She seemed amazed that I expected an accessible but I've never had a problem anywhere else before. I felt very uncomfortable and was ready to leave! The very prominent and unwelcoming sign on reception forbidding drinking alcohol in your own room on threat of being made to leave is offensive and laughable. Do they have cameras to check? When somewhere has recently been refurbished, I would expect at the least a ramp up the steps from reception! My husband helped me but how do wheelchair users and prams get in? Apparently there is a lift but not to the allocated room and we couldn't use it because it comes out in the ballroom where the wedding party was eating at the time. She said there was a ground floor room that hadn't checked in but wouldn't change rooms without checking with the groom. I was mortified and said to leave it til they'd finished. We planned to eat there anyway before getting ready, so we're happy to wait. Said we'd have a drink in the bar and she went off to ask. The bar is at the side of reception (up steps with NO DISABLED ACCESS), two women were having drinks, so we got the menus from the bar and waited....and waited...no staff to see be drinks, just dirty glasses on the bar. Receptionist returned, room change fine. "Can we order food and drinks now please?" having had time to choose from the menu. "No, it's closed." "What time does it open?" Looks amazed again, "No, it's closed". "Closed for the wedding?" "No, closed! We can't get the staff!" I'm not surprised!!! If your restaurant is permanently closed, take it off your website, remove the menus available at the side of the bar and remove the large sign advertising an Italian restaurant instead of the hotel! Gave up and went to room, which was freezing. Put heating on and went to nearest pub which was fabulous, so all well. Back to room to get ready, still freezing, too cold to have a shower! Party was great, loved seeing family. Woke up by my teeth chattering from the cold at 4am!! Still no heating, I used the hairdryer to warm up, got dressed and b
