Let me start by saying: 1) The stay was fine. The bathroom sink would not drain whatsoever, but no complaints other than that. 2) This is my 2nd maybe 3rd online review ever. I don’t do this often. I stayed at an English Garden bed and breakfast from August 25th - 27th to celebrate a friend’s wedding. On the morning of the 27th I got a call from a family member informing me that my father suffered a stroke. I raced out of there and straight to the hospital where I spent the next week. On September 2nd I was unpacking my bags and realized my checkbook was nowhere to be found. I called the front desk, and they told me they hadn’t seen it but took down my number in case it came up. I got a call 5 minutes later saying they had it. They had it for SIX days without thinking to notify me!? They told me they would mail it on September 5th since that weekend was Labor Day. On the 6th I called and spoke to the front desk ‘manager’ who had no idea what I was talking about but said she would look in to it and get back to me. Fast forward to September 11th, still haven’t heard anything. I call again and request to speak to the owner, which they would not allow me to do (even though the owners contact information is framed on a desk the moment you walk in?). On the 12th I get a call from the owner Calvin, and I explain my situation. He proceeds to tell me that it was thrown in a sensitive items drawer and essentially forgotten about, and that he would mail it back to me today. SIXTEEN days later! Still hasn’t been mailed, was never notified they had it, and he never once apologized about the situation. In the meantime, I’ve had to open a new checking account, debit card, checkbook, transfer all my automatic payments, the whole nine yards. Yes, it is my fault for leaving the checkbook, I fully recognize that. That doesn’t absolve them of their responsibility to notify the customer (who paid almost $1,000 to stay there for the weekend) that they left behind a sensitive item. On top of that, to hold on to it for OVER 2 weeks when it was supposedly “mailed” out 10 days ago. Absolutely atrocious customer service, take your business elsewhere for that price tag.
