Cathedral Quarter Hotel - Derby

We stayed here one night after a gig, for the money it was decent we paid less than 50 quid room only. Shower was hot and powerful, toiletries and tea/coffee included, TV had all the apps, towels and bedding good quality. We didn't eat or drink here given the amount of places nearby. Very quick check in and out.

This was Groupon gift my Mum had been given for her birthday, a luxury afternoon tea for two. Let's start with the positives, it is a lovely venue and the glass of prosecco was nice..... that's where the positives end. What we were served was terrible: We had 2 small sandwiches each. 1 cream cheese and salmon in dry white bread and one chopped cucumber and tomato sandwich that was just a soggy mess. When we asked for more sandwiches we got one small cheese sandwich each that had been toasted - probably to try and disguise the stale bread. All of the cakes were cheap shop bought. The scones were the kind you buy from the local shop in a pack with one small clotted cream tub between us. Muffins and lemon cake, a rock hard chocolate brownies and a cookie split in two for us to share. All accompanied with a pot of squirty cream. There were only 5 tables occupied and of those 4 were complaining. In the end the manager kept out of the way. This was absolutely nothing like the picture shown on the website

We recently had our wedding reception here . I would like to say how happy we are with our night . Although for a small group we were very fussy in our requests . The team couldn’t have been more accommodating in every detail we asked for and with a smile on their faces. They made our special night very very special Thank you

Very good location, handy for nice restaurants, pubs and museums. Quiet/safe area. Beautiful entrance/staircase in the hotel plus the dining area we used for breakfast was equally impressive. Breakfast was nice although both poached eggs (or rather four as my husband's were the same) were overcooked. Think we had been forgotten about as breakfast overall was lukewarm albeit tasty. Service friendly and courteous both at reception and breakfast. Room clean - small but adequate with a comfortable bed. The only problem was the bathroom which was fitted with a rainfall shower so difficult to use if not washing your hair plus no plug if you wanted a bath. We only stayed one night so not a massive problem. Please note in Room One (should have mentioned it on departure) the shower screen allowed water to escape all over the bathroom floor so needs a seal. Would definitely stay again.

We visited as a group of four for afternoon tea and were all extremely happy with everything. The building itself is gorgeous and the staircase is definitely photo worthy. The food was lovely and plentiful, we had to get boxes to take away the cakes as we couldn’t manage them. We were served by Abina who was very attentive, polite, friendly and efficient. We will definitely go back and would love to stay in the hotel one day soon. A definite recommendation!

What a night….I was in Derby for meetings yesterday and a pre-opening site visit of our new arena which all went well. Instead of staying in the usual chain budget hotels in the city centre I decided to go for an independently owned “boutique” one. First impressions were good, very attractive historic building with grand entrance. Unfortunately that was the only redeeming aspect. I exited the lift on the second floor and thought I’d arrived at a ‘coffee shop’ on old Amsterdam as I was hit by the strongest smell of ****. Once in the room I noticed the curtains were off the track, there was a junction box open with exposed wires. Given the unseasonably hot weather the room was like a furnace. Unfortunately the air con doesn’t work so I found a table fan in the wardrobe but it rattles loudly. The mattress is far too soft and there’s no mattress protector which is a real ick. I managed to get to sleep about midnight only to be woken at 3:45am with the fire alarm going off. I got sort of dressed went into the corridor where people were milling around and the alarm stopped. Wide awake and too hot to sleep I tossed and turned for hours without sleep. I’ve a full day ahead with a conference this morning but I don’t trust the breakfast here so I’m going to load up on coffee at one of the good independent coffee shops nearby. Faulty Towers eat your heart out!
