Hotel Desenzano

We stayed here a number of days while exploring the delights of the Lake Garda area and wider norther Italy. The hotel is excellently located for the railway station where one can easily get to Milan, Verona or Venice. However it is a simple brisk walk from the lakeside and harbour area. Those who walk regularly would find no difficulty but others may use the bus or local taxi to reach the shore. From the harbour one can rent a boat or take a ferry further across the lake. The pool is excellent on a warm day, and there is also the alternative of a sun deck on the roof with a Jacuzzi. There is a nice bar so one can relax with a spritz if desired. The rooms were pleasant and airy with a balcony. The only minor gripe is there could be more power outlets for the modern traveller with phones and tablets to recharge. The bathroom was good with a bidet and shower. Again, a minor gripe that the shower door dripped outside the tray leaking water over the floor which required ample towels to mitigate. On the catering side they were very very good with dietary requirements and provided menu alternates whenever required, and gluten free alternatives were made available at every breakfast.

Hotel was clean and well laid out. Room we had -116- overlooked the rear. No decent view. Room compact but ok. Bathroom small and awkward. Shower cubicle very small. Breakfast good. Bed good. No kettle/hot drinks in room? Asked for kettle but was refused. Bar area nice but under-used. Pool small but welcome. Roof has excellent terrace with great views, seating, sun beds and jacuzzi. As mentioned by others, the matriarch is ever present. She did not acknowledge us on any occasion - not even a smile, or a ‘Buongiorno’. Shouted a lot at her staff. This was not detrimental to our stay however, as the other staff were friendly. Strangely you have to ask for the air-con to be switched on in the room? The hotel was a good 20 minute walk downhill to the lake and 25 mins back. Only 5 min walk from station. Would stay again.

The name should be Hotel Dreadful! Leaking & flooded shower rude owner & it should have all the stars taken away. Apparently we just made it all up that the shower was flooded & there was no pressure in the water.

Very friendly staff, always helpful, nice and fresh breakfast, very good location, lovely Garda lake view on top with a jacuzzi ❤️ lovely stay, will definitely come back!! We booked the business room with balcony for 4 nights and it was the best decision ever! Rooms are clean, bed is comfortable

We were part of an organised tour group. Very convenient to the rail station. About 15 minute walk down to the water front, but down a steep hill that was a challenging climb back up for the less fit or mobile. Check out the buses or pay around 8 Euros for a taxi. Apart from breakfast, catering (and food was good) only set up for service for groups so on some free days it was necessary to eat elsewhere. No tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms. Very clean. Desenzano is lovely as is the whole area.

My wife's dietary needs were well catered for with a good choice of gluten free and vegetarian food. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The lady owner was always around making sure that everything ran smoothly and efficiently and we found her approachable and friendly even though she spoke very little English. We would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to return one day in the future. We were on a Great Rail Journeys Simply Lake Garda tour which we would also recommend.
