Wakefield South (M1, Jct39)

This was a very mixed bag. Not as easy as I hoped to find due to signage, but usefully close to the M1 without actually being on it. Free parking, revamped rooms, mostly for the better. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast staff were warm and friendly and kept supplies topped up. But... I didn't think I was terribly fussy about hygiene but I do not care for the fabric headboard and fabric walls and its not as if it was sound proofing, I could hear people in the next room (fortunately relatives) There was too little information in the room compared with usual Premier Inn and just an old breakfast menu (the prices increased quite some time ago). No remote for the TV. Road noise audible (would be worse on a weekday) More of an issue - the wrong room number written on one of our keycards (and we were not given it verbally - I can't say that the receptionist exuded warmth) so it was a case of trial and error. There was a fire alarm earlier than most weekend guests would want to be awake (shortly after 6am) which woke me up, followed by a power cut for about 45 minutes (so having been woken before it was light, it was irritating not being able to read and not wanting to waste battery life on the phone ahead of a day out... anyone who needed to be up and out earlier than we did and needing to use electrical kit, would have been worse) These things happen, but there was no apology. We were asked to book a time for breakfast which isn't always what I want to do, and cooked items have to be ordered. I prefer a buffet style. The advantage of ordering everything though is that it puts vegetarian items on the same footing. Unfortunately cooking veggie bacon well requires skill and knowledge of the particular brand and... it was not a success. There was no porridge around (there never seems to be at any PI these days even though it is still on the menu) Croissants were good.

Got no sleep whatsoever, doors banging all night and into the early hours, which then started again at 4AM, literally every 20/30 seconds you could hear a door being slammed, this place has no sound insulation at all. You'd get more sleep camping next to an airport runway. Very expensive for a room on an industrial estate.

I'd avoid this hotel in the winter as you're likely to wake up every few minutes by the heater that bleeps all night (it's the same story in most of the room as the hotel says "there's a long list of complaints about the heaters". The staff are lovely and the hotel isn't bad. The breakfast used to be better but the last couple of visits seemed to tell me that the breakfast isn't made to order. The hash browns looked like they were once beautifully cooked to perfect but when you cut into them are soggy and the poached eggs look amazing but when 'dipped into' provide no runny yolk. There is a greggs and subway a short walk away or you could drive a few minutes to the nearest mcdonalds. It wouldn't cost £11 either.

We stayed at this hotel primarily for the location on Christmas night, as we were going for Christmas dinner with family nearby. There was another hotel very close but was very expensive for the little time we would spend in it. We therefore selected premier inn as we have always found these to be very comfortable when we have stayed in others in the past. As soon as we arrived at this hotel we had a lovely greeting at the desk and reception felt very clean and fresh. Our rooms were also very clean and bed so comfortable. Cooked breakfast was made fresh and brought to your table which I much prefer. Service was good and brought with a smile. Overall what more could you ask and at a very reasonable price. I will always continue to look for premier inn as an option wherever I go.

Excellent service and breakfast perfect . Staff very friendly and efficient Comfortable beds and great location . I need to visit Wakefield frequently in the near future and looking forward to staying at this hotel again in the New Year. Mr T Curtis .

Premier Inns are always a great place to stay. But the lady serving breakfast in this hotel was over and above brilliant. Elaine was friendly, helpful, cheerful, chatty and hugely welcoming. It was a real pleasure to be served breakfast by such a lovely lady. She is a gem.
