Cruachan Guest House

A nothing special B&B with an owner who it appears could not care less if his guests are satisfied. We switched rooms as the first on the second floor had no heating. The next room on the first floor had heating from a single unit, but given that room was a large family room, it did not come close to heating it. The stairs from the first to the second floor are spiral and narrow. Care is required when using them. At breakfast, we declined the full eggs, bacon, etc., and asked for just scrambled eggs. We were told that only fried eggs were available, so we declined.

Good central location, walking distance to the centre and the meadows. Owner friendly. Basic but ideal for sleeping. Good tasty breakfast. No parking so not ideal if got a car. Is local 24 hour car parking however these can be expensive. Good location for regular buses

Basic rooms, budget place to stay near town. 15 walk away from Haymarket tram station and short walk into town. The shower was not very powerful in the family room and you will need time to set the temperature of the shower as it became very hot to shower in. There was mini soap, shower gel and shampoo provided. They cleaned the room for the two days we were there. The breakfast is basic but a nice touch was that you can order cooked breakfast. You cannot store luggage here and we didn’t know that so we had to take it with us after checking out at 10am. It was on a fairly quite street but because the window are old you can hear cars going past. If you don’t mind basic, budget place to stay then this is fine otherwise go somewhere else if you expect more. There is nothing fancy about this place as it’s very old building but it’s in a good location. There used to be no wardrobe only a coat rack with some hangers in the room. Hairdryer inside the bedside table.

My single room was small but had all I needed. Comfortable bed, TV and hairdryer, kettle and tea/coffee in room, quiet location. Gilmore Place is on two bus routes into the City Centre. (10 and 27) The en-suite bathroom was a little cramped, and the shower only seemed to have two temperatures, very hot or very cold. Apart from that, all was fine.

We stayed for a couple of nights and it's been a great experience. The room was large and comfortable and the attention made us feel right at home. Breakfast was super complete and filling. 100% would recommend.

This was probably the worst place I have ever stayed in. The first thing I noticed was a very strange smell of fried food which penetrated the whole of the house. Then we went to the room it was very cold, no heating was on, fridge was also turned off, when I enquired I was told to turn it on. We tried to put the bathroom radiator on but didn’t work, when my husband asked he was told it wasn’t working but a plumber had been called. Later that evening I asked if the plumber was coming he said no, he couldn’t get hold of him. Bearing in ming it was about 3 degrees outside it was freezing in the bathroom. I did mention we should perhaps discuss a partial refund and was told absolutely not, out of the question. An hour later he arrived at our door with an electric radiator which had an extension lead which was plugged into the bedroom. So when we were on the toilet we could not fully close the door! We also had an electric extension lead in the bathroom which in its self was a hazard. Then we get onto the bedding, when I pulled back the quilt cover it was worn and torn in a couple of placed. The room was dirty with thick dust on the skirting boards and cobwebs on the ceiling. Breakfast was served in a tiny conservatory which was freezing to the point my husband went back to the bedroom to collect his jumper. Breakfast was ok. However, no soya or lactose free milk available, I did ask for decaf tea which was provided on the second morning. The view from the conservatory while having breakfast are old chairs and cupboards just stored in the yard…….not the best. Shower is very old, no way you can have a decent shower as one minute water is scorching and the next it was freezing. I would never had booked this guest house if the reviews had been more accurate and in my opinion it was definitely not worth the money we paid and would not recommend!
