I would not recommend staying at this particular Travel Lodge. We stayed one night (Oct 24) at a total cost of £180. The staff were amazing, despite the obvious difficulties they were having to deal with. The night we stayed, 85% occupancy of the hotel was emergency housing for the local council. When I contacted Customer Service re our experience (which was not great) we were told “we as a company want to help wherever possible. This includes helping in charity events for the British Heart Foundation or supporting the local council should temporary accommodation be needed for those who are less fortunate. We believe that everyone has the right to a comfortable experience no matter what their circumstances are and we would not discriminate against a guest depending on the situation they have been placed in”. And, yes of course, I agree, providing it does not then adversely impact upon guests that are paying a significant sum for a hotel stay, where they would expect the stay to reflect the normal environment of a quality hotel (not a hostel). It would be helpful if the company made it clear on their website which hotels are being used to support local authorities with temporary accommodation. That way, tourists/ holiday makers can make an informed choice of whether they want to make a booking or not. And... contrary the Customer Service Advisors tone, and assumptions, we are not discriminatory or unsympathetic to anyone who is less fortunate, however, we do not expect to pay £180 a night to holiday in an emergency/temporary accommodation facility.
