Kimpton Mas Olas Resort and Spa

What a magical stay we just had at Mas Olas. I almost don't want to bring attention to this hidden gem because it was so peaceful and magical. What a beautiful resort, amazing staff, incredible food and outstanding spa/gym. Also, the gardens that surround this property are absolutely magical. We went for four nights for a quiet and relaxing couples getaway without our young son. It was exactly that. If you are looking for noise and nightlife, this is not your place. But if you are looking for outstanding food, spa, pool and relaxation, then look no further.

The Kimpton Mas Olas was a wonderful last-minute find; I'd eagerly returrn for a longer stay. The property is covered with gorgeous gardens that give the place a magical feel. We spent lots of time wandering through them, when we weren't swimming in the hotel's several lovely pools. Our oceanfront rooms were charming and comfortable, and the food at the hotel's signature restaurant was outstanding. This is a gem of a boutique hotel that feels happily removed from the Cabo mega resort scene. It's a truly unique and special place -- a beautiful place to unwind.

The Kimpton Mas Olas has been open for about a year and seems to still be finding its mojo. (Note there are older reviews on TripAdvisor, but they are for the property's prior hotel, which was a Hyatt that experienced an unfortunate tragedy.) It is gorgeous and well maintained. The pools and gardens/grounds are serene. There was not problem securing pool or beach lounges at any time. But we encountered a number of kinks. Our room's a/c stopped working two of our five nights, allegedly due to recurring power failures. We had an ocean-view room, but the view was largely obstructed by plants on the terrace and one large tree; we found it odd that we were given this room when the hotel was fairly empty. One of the three treadmills stops suddenly during use (we told the hotel to take it out of service, but they did not). Because the hotel was not busy, it rotated restaurants (one is water-side and one is not), bars, and staff. We were told prior to our stay and then when we checked in that we did not need reservations at the Kahal restaurant, but when we went on our first night to Kahal, they had no table for us without our having to wait. Two nights later, we went again to Kahal having made a reservation (specifically at a booth with a fire pit), but the fire pit did not work, and they would not move us to a table with a working fire pit. The restaurants and food are excellent, but the prices are very high; we ended up eating out a few nights after our unpleasant experience at Kahal and had good meals at Lucky 23 and Agricole, though not at Hierbabuena, which seems to be the concierge's favorite. All in all, despite our issues, we did like the hotel, its beauty/serenity, and its friendly staff. Once it has attracted more of a following and works out its kinks, this no doubt will be a very hot spot!

Just back after a week at Mas Olas for my daughter's wedding. Visited last April '24 with her to determine if suited as possible wedding venue; we were sold upon hello and then again after Bill (owner), Armando (hotel coordinator) and Sandro (chef/restaurant coordinator) toured their respective areas with us. Located in Baja Sur, off the beaten track and an hour outside of Cabos, the area is exactly what we sought. No thumping music, built in accordance with its surrounding, the Pacific and mountains as our backdrops; yet, providing the level of activity and serenity we hoped for. The owner with assistance of an outstanding crew has developed an organic garden/farm that provides the consistently incredible meals served by Sandro and his staff. No hyperbole. The food is either from the garden or the sea, locally, and is superior. The gardens consist of an array of cactus, fruit trees, flowering trees and other beautiful healthy ground cover. There are meandering dirt paths throughout and provide a peaceful way to detox from life. There are 3 areas with pools: Centro, provides dual pools with dining/bar area in between and ocean as backdrop; Botanica dining area is an arm's length from a cold pool that is situated between the spa (awesome, with sauna, steam room, hot tubs and protected lounging area) and the gym (outfitted for the gym rat, like myself, with two reformers, two Peletons, 2 treadmills, weights, Bosus, kettle bells, etc.), and Kahal with an infinity pool that abuts the dining area also overlooking the Pacific. All pools have built in platform lounge beds and umbrellas. The rooms are beautiful; I had an ocean front room with large, fabulously comfortable king bed, outdoor plunge pool and indoor and outdoor showers. Insane. The other accommodations are equally as comfortable; all afford a lovely outside lounging area, spacious bathrooms and beautiful views. What contributes to the resort is the crew and staff. This was a stressful week; many moving parts, many people, a number of different events. Consistently, the guests commented on the staff, how helpful and attentive they were. Not once did I feel that things were falling through the cracks. I didn't feel that way when I first visited last year and again, was met with professionalism to the hilt during the past week. Clearly, the tone is set by those who oversee the day to day operations of Mas Olas; that would be Bill, Armando, Sandro and those who they manage on a daily basis. And for that I am forever grateful. All contributed to making this once in a lifetime event stellar on all fronts....I felt that way as did the 180 guests who helped make the magic.

It was the big surprise after a bumpy, dusty road to enter a botanical garden! We enjoyed a really spacy room with a direct view to the large open beach and also once saw the caudal fin of a whale from there! We also had a great dinner at the Kahal restaurant - if you like food with an "asian touch"! The service team was really fast to respond to whatsapp notes and requests, and for us they made also an exception to the rule and allowed us to take hotel towels outside of the side. As we had to leave before breakfeast time on our last day they - on request - prepared a nice package of food, however, forgot to add cuttlery; which was not an issue with sliced fruits, but with the granola.

Fabulous! Beautiful facilities (rooms, spa, fitness center) and great restaurants. Chef Sandros' culinary delights do not disappoint! In addition, the warmth, professionalism, and friendliness of the staff at Mas Olas made our trip truly special. A big shout out to Chef Sandros, Raquel, Marlen, Carlos, Giovanni, Jonathan, Josue, Dino, Francisco, Oliver, Adrian, Juan, and the entire group at Mas Olas. We will be back!
