Fontelunga Hotel & Villas

Villa Fontelunga is among the finest boutique hotels we have ever stayed at. The Villa is centrally located in the heart of Tuscany; 1 hour from Florence, about 40 minutes from Sienna, and 30 minutes from Arezzo and Cortona. The proprietors, Paolo and Philip, and their joyful and professional team (Greta and Erica) are extraordinary hosts. We took our family ( 17 adults and teenagers) to the Villa for a week of relaxation, tours to Firenze, Arezzo, wineries, Sienna (where we had a fabulous cooking lesson from Scuola di Cucina de Lella), and superb local restaurants. Fontelunga deserves its Michelin rating. For us, it was as good as any five-star accommodation. It has 9 en-suite rooms including a separate villa, magnificent views of Tuscan hills and delights for all—a beautifully maintained swimming pool (necessary for 90 degree heat) and tennis court, outside courtyard for dining and wonderful breakfast room. Many excellent restaurants were only 10-15 minutes away. On several evenings we decided not to leave the hotel and the Villa arranged to bring in lunches and dinners, which were phenomenal. We cannot say enough about Paolo and Philip and their team. We felt at home there and the Villa Fontelunga team became part of our family during our stay. We cherished our visit and cannot wait to return.

Philip and Paolo run a superb facility with much attention to detail. Location is perfect with their restaurant minutes away. Perfectly situated for exploring the wonderful Tuscan countryside but take care on the roads and watch out for the Italian tailgating drivers.

Wow, what an incredible stay! Easily one of the most beautiful properties we've ever stayed at - the gardens and pool are immaculately kept, the shared indoor spaces are clean and spacious, and our room included everything we could have asked for. It felt like a dream waking up each morning to the idyllic rolling Tuscan hills. Phillip, Paolo, Elena, Mila, and the rest of the team couldn't have done more to make sure we had a great stay. From advising on restaurants and activities to book ahead of time, to greeting us with a smile in the morning with our coffee, we couldn't fault the hospitality and warmth of the staff at Fontelunga. Not to mention the sweetest dogs who kept us company when having breakfast on the terrace or relaxing with a glass of wine in the evening. The location of Fontelunga worked perfectly for us. We made the short drive to San Gimignano, Siena, Montalcino and Gaiole in Chianti while we were there, though we also would have been perfectly happy to spend our entire time at the property. A huge thank you again to all at Fontelunga for a wonderful stay. I couldn't imagine a better place to celebrate our engagement - we cannot wait to return!

My wife and I absolutely loved our 5 nights at the hotel and would highly recommend it but it may not suit everyone. In my opinion it’s actually a ‘up market’ B&B as there isn’t a restaurant on site and the staff are around from morning to evening time. That actually in my opinion made the place as it encourages guests to mingle and as a result we had a terrific time with fellow guests especially the large group of Australians who were there at the same time. The breakfasts are excellent with freshly cooked produce and a daily home made cake. At night there is an honesty bar and a range of nibbles left for guests as well as ample fruit and the remaining cake from breakfast. The staff are absolutely superb and Philip the owner a smashing chap. Up the hill at Borgo 69 Philips other enterprise is a great tapas style restaurant and bar which on Mondays has a ‘pizza night’ which is clearly a hit with the locals. The pool area is great and outdoor seating and dining areas are excellent. The hotel is superbly located for visiting the main tourist sites.

This beautiful Tuscan hills getaway brings the charm and appeal of feeling like being at home with superior service and care from the entire team. Fontelunga is a hidden gem tucked away with unforgettable vista views. From the minute we arrived where Paulo escorted us to the patio for lunch and drinks to being cared for all 3 days and nights by Ericka, and Martina. The rooms were very nice, we had a villa our friends had a 3rd floor room both were great. The morning coffee americanos and pasties with the sun coming up was breathtaking - the pool/hot tub was a daily routine and the honesty bar was a nice touch giving you the comfort of helping yourself. This is centrally located for the Tuscan region easy to get to wineries - All in, top notch place to stay

We spent 5 nights in the wonderful Villa Galletto, which belongs to the Fontelunga Collection (Fontelunga Hotel, Borgo69 Hotel, Scannagallo Villas). Villa Galletto is located in a very quiet and secluded location on a large property together with Villa Gallo and Villa Scannagallo, but only 5 minutes drive from Borgo69 Hotel. There the check-in for the villa takes place. Also the supervision and cleaning is done from the Borgo69. This means that there is always a point of contact, which we found very positive. The Borgo69 has a good, modern restaurant where we ate several times. The Villa and the surrounding area were designed and furnished with a lot of flair, style and attention to detail. Villa Galletto shares a pool with Villa Gallo. We were fortunate that the other villa was not booked during our stay so we had the pool and garden to ourselves. The villas are far enough apart that privacy is guaranteed. The Villa Galletto is advertised with 55m2 size. We were initially concerned if this was too small. We found the villa to be much larger than 55m2, thanks to the well thought-out and stylish architecture, high ceilings, clever room layout including storage spaces and closets. We liked the villa for their bright rooms (in Tuscany often difficult to find in hotels), the small sitting area with morning sun, the winter garden with fireplace and especially the beautifully designed outdoor area with pool and garden. Two local cats visited us daily in front of our villa, very sweet. Everything was thought of in the villa. A rack to hang up bathing suits, table and chairs in the outdoor area, sun loungers, wool blanket for colder evenings, microwave, hair dryer, outdoor grill and charcoal, washing machine, dishwasher, espresso machine, plenty of dishes and cutlery etc. Negative points? Yes, there are, but for us not very disturbing. The villa was a bit outdated and could use some renovation. The sliding door of the winter garden is stuck, the wood of the doors is partly rotten and some shower tiles in the bathroom are a bit gray. But the villa was very clean and well maintained. We found the price-performance ratio for the villa to be very good. If you want a super modern villa/room, you are in Borgo69. However, the prices there are also much higher and you have no private pool and garden. We had a major insect/mosquito problem in the bedroom at the beginning. With an insect spray, the problem was solved. The last section to the villa leads over an unpaved road, not quite ideal. On the other hand, the car can be parked directly in front of the villa. People looking for a quiet and secluded villa with large grounds, pool, independence and good value for money, Scannagallo Villas are perfect. We felt very comfortable and would book Villa Galletto again.
