6-night stay with my wife and daughter in a hotel perched on a cliff overlooking the Ionian Sea. We had rooms with their own private terraces on the penultimate floor, providing breathtaking views of the stunning Eastern Sicilian coastline. The rooms were clean, suitably rustic, quiet, and spacious. Hotel staff were polite, approachable, and respectful - the Reception staff were lovely, and the restaurant staff for breakfast and dinner were attentive and helpful. The quality of the food overall was very good - the buffet dinner especially, with themed nights, offered up a wide range - we are pescatarian and often at buffets we are sold short, however at Baia, they laid on a fantastic range of starters, mains and desserts, with the option to ask the chefs to cook up fresh fish and pasta - outstanding! As for amenities, we think the hotel's own private bit of beach was the highlight. Access requires a bit of a walk that includes a steep flight of rugged steps, but the literal "climb" is worth it - you come out into a small cove with a pebbly, stone beach (so make sure to have the right footwear), but the water is warm, clear, and free from crowds. We spent one morning and one afternoon relaxing on our own stretch of beach and water. The hotel runs a shuttle service to/from Taormina - a great service given the nightmare that is parking in Taormina and costly taxis. The invoices that are presented at checkout could perhaps be more clearly laid out (especially as they are in Italian), but other than that, when we return to Sicily (next time with both of my daughters), we will be looking out for those excellent top-floor rooms again. Grazie a tutti!
