The Richard Johnston Inn & 1890 Caroline House

Always come here during the December anniversary of the Civil War Battle of Fredericksburg. We usually stayed in the Virginian room upstairs. This time at checkin Liz offered us the Isabella. Glad we took her up on the offer. No steps except to go get our wonderful breakfast. BTW These ground floor units I’m told were the slave quarters before the Civil War!!!

What a great place, especially if you are a history buff. We stayed in The Kitchen House #9. Two Queen beds, glass wine glasses with brandy and chocolates ate in your room along with a coffee maker and lovely glass mugs. The beds are quite high but there was a stool provided. Also included is a bedside charging station with four plugs and several USBs. Robes are also provided. There is a tub shower in the room where a grab bar would be helpful. Outside your door is a lovely patio with tables and chairs. Breakfast is served upstairs in the main house in the beautiful dining room. Homemade breakfast was delicious. You also ave access to a small sitting room. Our only negative was the fan in the bathroom operates the fan as well. The noise is a little annoying. But other than that it was lovely.

The Richard Johnston Inn was a fantastic place to stay on our recent trip to Fredericksburg. The room was spacious (we stayed in room # 10 off the patio) and extremely clean. The location couldn't have been better, located in the heart of Old Town Fredericksburg. Don' miss the breakfast - it was outstanding. Would highly recommend!

My wife and I stayed at the Richard Johnson B&B this past April on Caroline St. We were pleasantly surprised. We stayed in the Isabella Suite along with our West Highland Terrier for 2 nights on our car trip to South Carolina. The beautifully restored 1770 home was a great choice. The Inn is located right in the heart of the Fredericksburg Historical section. Restaurants and antique shops are all within walking distance. The service at the Inn was top shelf and the breakfasts were outstanding. I would not hesitate to stay there again if we go back to Fredericksburg. A great place to stay! Ron and Kathleen Hacku

This is the only place we stay when we go into town in Fredericksburg. A great old in with a fantastic location, great rooms and all the comforts of home. The staff are the greatest. Liz the manager is the best. A professional and a great chef. Her breakfasts are always top chef quality in flavor and presentation.

We stayed at the Richard Johnston Inn in “The Loft” for one night while on a trip through DC & Virginia. The loft was a lovely room with the bed upstairs. Breakfast was served at 9 AM and it was delicious. The location of the Inn is perfect. It’s right downtown across the street from the trolley tour which I highly recommend. We did not realize the Inn allows dogs. We are not against dogs. However, the dog below us was barking a lot! Every time the owners left to go eat dinner or sightsee we had to listen to it. It was very annoying. As well, there is a restaurant on the next block that played music on Friday night. It was very loud and kept us up until midnight. That is not the fault of the Inn. I’m deducting a star because of the dog and the couch was old and we felt itchy while sitting on it, and received some bites on our legs either from fleas in the carpet or something else That we couldn’t identify. Marissa greeted us with a smile and had a friendly demeanor, and gave us suggestions on where to visit in town. She was lovely if you get to interact with her.
