Friendly and helpful staff. Mild stains found on couch’s fabric. Hot/cold water unsteady.

Really nice stay with family. Good facilities, pools and outdoors. Food and drinks really good and a lot of variety. Staff excellent, really nice and available. The rooms starts showing need for modernisation.

My husband and I stayed for 10 days at Pestana Royale Resort and it was absolutely wonderful. The incredibly kind, friendly staff just couldn’t do enough for us to make sure that we were happy and comfortable. Wait staff at buffet and restaurants were friendly and welcoming, food was excellent. From chicken, lamb, veal, all kinds of fish, there was something for everyone. Frim Breakfast to desserts, incredible! Our room was absolutely fantastic, with 2 balconies, sea view overlooking the pool. 3 guys that stand out and always checked in on us to make sure we were ok are Piablo(front desk), Heldon(runs dining hall), and Mr. Freitas(evening bar ) Thank you so much Pestana Royal for making our first visit to Europe an absolute pleasure, one we will never forget!

We quite liked the hotel and its friendly staff, but it is certainly not a 5 star hotel in the way guests might reasonably expect given the title of the hotel. With 300+ rooms the hotel appears to attract a wide variety of guests including many tour groups from around Europe and further afield. We felt the vibe was one of ‘package holiday’ rather than a 5 Star experience. The hotel re-opened in 2017 after a major refit and the ‘public’ areas look great. Many of the hotel bedroom areas do, however, have a distinct late 90s feel and are still decorated with what look like original furnishings and fittings. As well as the main buffet there are two ‘specialist’ restaurants with limited openings and capacity. Guests are rationed in number of times during their stay. Get in quick with you booking on arrival to ensure a place. Despite the mixed TripAdvisor reviews of the buffet food, we found it tasty with a wide range of choices and a good variety of dishes over the week. With so many guests eating there it is not surprising that the buffet is very noisy at peak times. If you want to keep up your walking ‘steps’ this is the place for you. It is a loooong walk to reception from many rooms. We clocked up 2.5km over our week stay just going to and from the dining areas! The Primavera Bar and Lounge at the hotel, had staff doing their best in probably the least atmospheric bar we’ve ever encountered. The ‘bar’ itself was little more than a counter on the side of what instantly reminded me of a concert hall in Butlins in the 1960s! On the four occasions we briefly visited the entertainment was either Karaoke or singalongs. The outside pools were good and there were zillions of basic sunbeds. The hotel location was ok overlooking the rocky Formosa beach but is quite a way from the centre of Funchal. You can walk along the coastal path promenade which takes about an hour. There is a, twice daily, free large shuttle bus into the city as well as local buses every 15 minutes from just outside the hotel; €1.95 pp or buy a book of tickets. Overall, I’d add that we had done our research in advance and so nothing came as surprise. We enjoyed our stay, but we wouldn’t return.

Great location and excellent rooms This was our fourth stay at The Pestana and as always the hotel were accommodating when we requested a higher level floor with sea views. Breakfast, Lunch and dinner in the main restaurant was varied and well prepared we were also able to eat Al fresco on the terrace which has views over the sea. Staff very polite and working hard. Pools are amazing and very good kids club, Definitely would recommend !!!

Best breakfast I ever had at a hotel Staff very friendly Hotel was over hall very tidy Was amused with the ocean view from my room. The Italian restaurant was very nice and the buffet was very good as well every day the food was different and tasted good. Looking forward to return soon.

This is an amazing hotel, the staff is excellent, the food is very delicious and copious. We had a Deluxe Superior room for 3 adults, it was a big room, the beds were comfortable, the view was fantastic (3th floor) One of the best holiday experience! :)

Cleaned room everyday Food selection was very good, but pastry chef was excellent. Every day was something different to choose. Drinks and soft drinks durign all day. The hotel staff was smiling and helpful. Inside pool and three outside pools with the pool bar.

From the moment that we walked in to the Pestana Royal it was a big warm welcoming hug. All of the staff are polite, helpful and nothing too much trouble. Our room was on floor 9 with a sea view across the top of the Palm trees and swimming pools, we slept with our door open every night giving us the nighttime coolness along with the soothing sounds of the sea below. Food was not only plentiful but fresh and with plenty of variety, I do not normally rate european all inclusive hotels but this was exceptional. If you are heading for Madeira and prefer an all inclusive then this hotel is definitley worth a stay.

Very friendly. Spotless.Lovely rooms comfy beds.Facilities very good.After travelling all over the world this hotel ranks up as one of my favourites. Attention to detail is excellent. Staff cannot do enough for you.Very efficient. This place is now on my list of places to re visit.Thank you for a tremendous vacation.

After two room changes we ended up in a perfect room overlooking the sea. The room was tired but cleaned daily. The food was not only superb and varied but there were some surprises for example, king prawns, tuna, monkfish and in actual fact so much fish which we love. Yes, there is also meat, so exceptional choices every meal. The waiting staff were so good, bringing wine to the table for refills and clearing plates away very quickly. Special mention here to our lovely waitress Florentina who looked after us so well. There was entertainment every night a special mention again to the karaoke night with Celso. There is crazy golf, table tennis and giant chess along with a gym and of course the pools. A free hotel bus goes into Funchal twice a day. There is also a hotel lift down to the beach. We would certainly recommend this hotel.

Beautiful hotel, with stunning views and lovely atmosphere. Staff very attentive and we never wanted for anything. Food good, something for everyone. Would recommend the west coast day trip with Dino, very informative and he is very passionate about his island and ensures you have a great time. Would definitely return. Would definitely return.

The hotel and staff were first rate, we had a wonderful holiday. A shout out to Florintina and Ricardo from the restaurant - efficient and friendly. This was our first time in Madeira so of course we participated in all the touristy things which was great fun. Be sure to make your way via the hotel outside lift to the promenade and through the amazing tunnels. there are brilliant sea pools (charged) which were amazing You can walk along the prom to the centre of Funchal which was good on our only dull day. The hotel was like a tropical oasis with a wonderful outdoor area for sitting surrounded by amazing mature plants. There is also a lovely library and coffee machine with an assortment of books to borrow which was great! We swam each morning in one of the two good size outdoor pools - once you get in its really quite warm and really invigorating. The pools are is well kept and the views of the hills are gorgeous to see while you are swimming. We used the indoor pool also. There were plenty of sunbeds for anyone that required one. The food was delicious with a great variety. It was possible to be on holiday and eat well and healthily with the delicious food on offer mmm We also booked for the Maderian restaurant which was wonderful and for the Italian restaurant (not so good). There is a courtesy bus to Funchal twice a day, also buses are cheap and frequent from the top of the road The room we had was beautiful with amazing sea views, all in all this was a wonderful holiday - we are planning to return in February, a first for us.
