Beautiful hotel grounds . Spacious rooms but tired decor, needs updating. Service was very hospitable. Much much older crowd

Nach mehreren Nächten stellt man natürlich das ein oder andere Manko fest. Für uns befindet sich jedoch alles insgesamt noch auf einem Niveau, wo es dem Stil angemessen scheint. Sehr stilvoll insgesamt und die Professionalität bzw der Umgang der meisten Angestellten mit den Gästen auf einer gelungenen Ebene. Man darf tatsächlich das P/L nicht außer Acht lassen. Nicht für jeden das richtige, doch selbst die Lage ist für uns ein super Kompromiss.

We had a lovely stay, the staff and food were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble.A real relaxing experience with old school service that was a real pleasure.The hotel is full lovely art and furniture with wonderful views overlooking Funchal .We would definitely return.

What a great hotel..friendly staff (reception comes out to greet you on arrival), a peaceful & relaxing environment, really nice pool & gym, tremendous food. Close enough the centre of town to make it accessible (there’s a shuttle bus but we used Bolt - you can walk but the hills are steep). We were on half board & both breakfast & dinner were uniformly great. The set menus worked for us even when the dishes weren’t necessarily what we’d choose. It’s fair to say that we really enjoyed every single four course meal! The restaurant staff were impeccably friendly & professional which made for an excellent dining experience. Would recommend this hotel to people looking for a quiet, relaxing break. Lots of things to do in Madeira & this hotel provides a great base if you do feel active.

Great experience: quiet, beautiful place, perfect location and very welcoming people. The swimming pool has a beautiful sight on Funchal There’s a tennis court and a magnificent garden Food is excellent personnel very welcoming and nice

Don't like hotels in busy places and this hotel certainly met the requirements, being contained in a walled garden area . There is a less desirable part of town just over the wall to the rear however this is hidden from view and was not a problem. The hotel is up a very steep hill so unless you are fit on the return take a taxi or catch the complementary mini bus which runs several times a day . Hotel staff could not be more helpful however we did miss out on some hotel facilities which were not identified to us as we arrived late evening . Pool is a little dated and the mosaic tiles around the outside were frequently falling off . The bottom of the pool had been covered in a lining , presumably as a cheaper option to retiling it. Sun beds are plentiful and clean towels placed around by the staff . A small gym, sauna and hot tub are available next to the pool. Rooms were cleaned daily and bed linen and towels changed regularly . Mini bar in room but went to local supermarket and stocked it with soft drinks and chocolate for our visit. The pool snack bar is good and open until 9.30 for food Lunches were excellent . The Ala carte restaurant in the villa is very old world with crystal chandeliers and period fittings . Food was excellent although a little pricey for a 3 course meal , €30 wine , tea , coffee and a bottle of water , €180 for two but in an enjoyable atmosphere.. We went B&B as we like to try different restaurants . Breakfast was more than adequate with an expectation to take a piece of fruit away ! Never tried the inclusive restaurant which has a fixed 4 course menu. Staff could not be more helpful and the front desk arranged our taxis each night . The average age group of this hotel is in the upper percentile and we felt like the bad kids on the block (63 !) arriving back 3 nights on the trot to closed hotel gates and most of the place in darkness at just after midnight. . Enjoyed the stay but would I stay here again ? Maybe but would probably look more towards a hotel on a peninsula towards Lido rather than being up the steep hill !

Beautiful colonial hotel set in beautiful gardens. Nothing was too much, the service was amazing and the views were stunning. Very picturesque. The reception staff were amazing, helped with the hire of a car which we made good use of. They have 3 restaurants. The main restaurant, a pool bar and ala carte restaurant, all very good in their own right. We had such an amazing time. Thanks guys for making it so special

All of the Staff are amongst the best we have ever had the privilege to experience. Always smiling, always helpful and looked after us exceptionally well. Plus my woeful Portuguese wasn’t ever a problem. Facilities in the hotel are excellent, you could easily spend a couple of days here and not leave the grounds if you just wanted to chill out. The hotel is a bit up the hill and away from the main tourist areas which means it’s very quiet and peaceful. No more than €10 to get down to the town centre in a taxi if you the courtesy bus time table doesn’t suit. Generally the people in Madeira are great, very pleasant and a great laugh if you are respectful.
