The Swope Manor Bed & Breakfast

Nice stay. A beautiful house and warmly welcome.

We stay here every year and it's always a wonderful experience. Bruce and his crew are awesome. Great location to walk to shops and our favorite restaurants. We purchase a 7 day parking pass to the garage right behind the Swope. Very convenient. Beautiful home, comfortable rooms. We wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.

Why anyone would give this place a bad review is beyond me.. the Swope Manor is AWESOME.. we have stayed here twice in the Gettysburg Suite.. Bed and pillows are so comfy and the sunk in tub is so nIce to relax in after spending a day walking.. David, the chef is so awesome!! His food is phenomenal, the pecan muffins are divine!! Coffee bar downstairs with fresh baked cookies .. cannot beat this place. Plus you can walk to most anything .. we love it !!

Bed and Room small. Location was fine and no parking free was a minus. Back deck was good and people were pleasant. Beds were just ok. Breakfast were very limited . No one was at the BB when we arrived. Keys were left in envelope. Average stay. People were all very nice.

We made our reservations with the Swope Manor after reading reviews of other B&B’s in the area. We drove up from Florida with good friends of ours and stayed five nights. Our rooms were nicely appointed with antique period pieces and very clean. All staff we came in contact with went out of their way to accommodate us and made us feel very welcomed (thank you Bruce and Autumn!) in the back of the property was a gas fire pit and patio pieces where we spent many evenings together. The Swope is within walking distance of downtown and of course, anything battlefield related. We enjoyed each breakfast and the time and effort that went into these meals. These were generally started with a serving of fresh fruit, homemade muffins and a quiche type entree. My only suggestion is to add something like home fries and bacon which would have rounded out the meals. We loved our time at the Swope Manor and if back in Gettysburg, would definitely stay again!

Disappointing! My wife and I originally made a three night reservation; but we decided to stay only one night due to multiple factors as follows: 1) room resident cannot control air conditioning from suite - it is locked and governed by management making it VERY difficult to sleep and even relax in the room (despite a direct request to innkeeper); 2) no coffee maker in room as was expected by my reading of the suite amenities; 3) the stairs to the suite (on the 3rd floor) were extremely uneven making it difficult to maneuver and carry suitcases; 4) the king bed was EXTREMELY uncomfortable making a good night's sleep almost impossible; 5) cost to value ratio for suite did not make sense as we were very disappointed in the suite; 6) TV in parlor did not work during our stay despite numerous attempts to resolve issue; 7) minimal hot water for showers (the water took an inordinate time to get even warm); 8) minimal toiletries in suite; and, 9) no bottled water available; Good Point - Breakfast was great We will not be a future guest!

My husband and I just went here on a whim for our anniversary. We had never been here and didn’t do much research, but to say we did good is an understatement. This place was wonderful! The atmosphere, the people, food, hospitality etc. A beautiful historic home, right in town. The rooms are comfortable and homey. The breakfast was great, the staff was super personal and kind. We will recommend Swope Manor and be back for sure!!!

Swope Manor is a lovely Bed and Breakfast and was very clean. My husband and I and another couple stayed for two nights. The staff was friendly, but not always on site. Breakfast was very good, and they accommodated my food allergies, which I totally appreciated. (Call in advance if you have allergies). If you go in warmer weather, they had a lovely backyard seating area. There was a fire pit table, but we did not use it so cannot say whether or not it worked. Parking was off-site in a parking garage, but just around the corner so an easy walk. It cost $12 for 24 hours, which we felt was reasonable. We stayed in the Miss Emily Rose Chamber. The room was clean, but there were no amenities such as shampoo, conditioner or soap in our room. Our friends stayed in another room, and they were provided with amenities, so we should have had them in our room. The nobs on the sink faucet had porcelain tops. The one on the cold-water side was not attached and kept falling off. That was a little annoying. It should be an easy fix for the Manor. There were some small dirt particles on the sheets and there was a light stain on the quilt. The temperature in the room could not be controlled and it was so hot, we could not sleep. Also, both our pillows were awful! They were uneven, hard as a rock and had plastic things attached to them like clothing stores put on clothes so you couldn't steal them. No one would want their pillows! The worst was the noise. There were very noisy trucks driving by all night long. This also kept us awake. It's probably safe to assume most people would be bothered by this noise, unless you live in a busy city and are used to a lot of night noise. They had a water cooler in the dining area with an empty bottle on it the first day. When we woke in the morning, we noticed a full new bottle so were hopeful we would have water that day. We went out to do our tours and when we returned, the full water bottle was sitting on the floor and the empty bottle was still on the cooler. My husband changed out the bottles. Unfortunately, if we are ever to go back to Gettysburg, we will choose a different place to stay.

Would not choose this again. Lovely to look at, very badly located on corner with semi trucks all through the night. Meal was pretty, but nothing special. The worst: no hot water. Came in late, so no staff to help. Phone unanswered after hours. Ran water for 20 min...barely lukewarm, so couldn't shower/shave night or next morning. Told staff member, his reply could not have been disinterested.
