Motel Gilau

Beautiful view. Loved this place so much. We just came to eat, but definitely we will come to stay and try the accommodation part. Our waiter was so kind and knowledgeable about menu, he was able to recommend us the food and drinks what we should try and we went for it. We didn't want to be much of the pain, however we needed his help as the menu was not in English. The food presentation, the drinks were outstanding and delicious. Highly recommend to everyone.

Best lake view in the area, the food is great and staff is really friendly (Bogdan provides the perfect services each time). One of my favorites places in Cluj Napoca, I always stop there when I'm passing by. It's a perfect place to runaway from the summer heat and enjoy some queit days in the nature

We're recently engaged and looking for wedding venues and when I saw Motel Gilău online, I honestly got so excited. It was exactly what we were looking for and I came to Cluj with intentions of booking a venue tour etc. We decided to visit the venue just to grab some food first and to get a feel for the place and I'm so glad we did. We ordered at the restaurant and it was terrible. My finance got a burger and chips (super oily and burned) and I got cannelloni (absolutely shocking - the sauce was burned and the cheese was dried out). Whatever about the food, chefs can have a bad day but the issue we had was when we sent it back. The waiter didn't care, he didn't ask what was wrong with it, if we wanted a replacement / something else off the menu. He just said "OK". We asked for the bill and the waiter came over to ask us what level of tip we were giving, when we re highlighted the issues, he was disagreeable and impolite. We asked for the card machine and it took them circa 20mins to bring it, even though the restaurant was empty - clearly on purpose and ignoring us. I would suggest to anyone thinking about coming here to come for sure, take some pics of the fab location and leave. Spend your money somewhere that deserves it. So glad we did homework before considering booking here. I would be so embaressed to bring my family somewhere where they would be treated like that.

I had dinner at Motel Gilau together with a friend and my parents and had a wonderful view accompanied by a quiet, fresh and suitable atmosphere for discussions. Of course, we came here to taste their famous trout, which we ordered in two versions: grilled and in a malai crust. It was phenomenal! We also had some pasta carbonara which was divine (the parmesan on top put me off) In conclusion, a superb restaurant, suitable for relaxation, good food and discussions. One last note, it's a little far from Cluj-Napoca, but we would definitely go this way again for the experience it offers us!

We went on a trip to Romania and ended up to the Motel , for a quick lunch. The outside terrace was packed, but the reservation system in place was doing the job, sending us an sms message when the table was available. We had lunch at the round terrace, away from the restaurant, as it was an event on that time. The food was good, big and generous, tasty, big portions especially the desert papanasi. Overall was a good experience, even the prices were spicy and a bit shocking at the end, but it is what it is, hospitality sector was bleeding for a long time and needs to get the money back, so I completly understand. A great location outside the big city, not more than 20 minutes from the outskirts of the big town, people working hard to please the customers, so we will go back for sure, if we will visit the country and Transylvania again.

It is unbelievable that I have to write such a review for food in such a well known place in Cluj surroundings. On Saturday morning we ordered for take away a portion of fish fillet and papanasi . I must say I saw a lot of advertising in Instagram about these dishes and was expecting good taste. The waiter was average, did not give any details about the food and I had the impression that even if it was an army of staff there, they were all bored and tried to get rid of the work, pushing each other in front for taking orders. The order came quickly and overpriced. The fillet was full of bones and tasteless ( not even grill or smoke taste). The sour cream of the” papanasi” was bitter. But the worse thing is that on the top of the food casserole where the fish was, I saw a lot of small white worms, of course after I had half of the meal. I mention that the serving was on the Terrace and not in the restaurant where they had an event. This is something to be verified by the Customer Protection and Food Safety institutions, not just a disappointed first and last time customer review. Avoid taking away food from there and check it very well in the plate!
