In 3 weeks of travelling this is the first accommodation with which my husband and I had any issue. Arriving in the very late afternoon, having reserved a room, we were pointed out the back door without any instruction other than our room number. We searched the hallways and felt lost. Upon returning to reception we were then shown through the halls, outside to a separate building, up the stairs and down a dank, unattractive hall to our room at the furthest corner of the 1st floor. The room looked depressing, without one ounce of effort put toward the décor, and with stained carpet and cheap furnishings. As I had planned to stay behind for the entire next day to do some work, I could not see myself spending that amount of time in this room. The rain would have prevented me from using the more attractive courtyard, even under cover. We had paid in full and it was non-refundable but both of us decided we would prefer to leave and find other accommodation if necessary. When we informed the receptionist of our decision she offered us an alternative ground-floor room off the courtyard. It wasn’t to our taste particularly but it was far more acceptable, so we said yes and began to bring in our belongings. At that point, the woman returned to tell us we could have the room for €20 p/n than we had paid. I said I wouldn’t pay extra, so either we had the room for the same price or we would leave. She agreed. Unfortunately the situation made us change our plans so as not to spend any more money at this establishment. We picked up patisserie in a neighbouring village for breakfast. I accompanied my husband to his appointments rather than work from the room. We went to two local restaurants rather than dining in. We slept fine. The bed was comfortable. The 2 chairs were comfortable. However, there are obvious signs of meanness (lack of generosity/hospitality). • No fridge • no hand soap for the sink • no milk or creamer for the coffee/tea • 2 paper cups uncovered in the bathroom • 1 teenytiny bottle of all-purpose liquid cleanser for 2 people staying 2 nights (an ugly pump bottle of something on the wall of the bathtub turned backwards and too far to reach for use at the sink • no literature about the hotel, the restaurant or the area in the room • a cheap and hideous fake flower arrangement on coffee tables do flimsy that they moved or upturned if knocked even slightly. Everything felt outdated or plasticky from the flooring to the generic framed pictures. Had I realized that there was no shower, just a narrow bath with a handheld attachment, I would not have stayed at all as I much prefer a shower. We next saw the staff at our checkout. Staying at L’Oree des Vignes was like being at a motel. Nothing to interest, comfort or excite. Just a bed to sleep in. The owner of this establishment would do well to spend a tad more money on small things to make the stay more special, especially as this area has high end businesses and restaurants that attract visito
