One week half board in Gouvia. Lovely clean and welcoming stay at the small but perfect family run Palotel in Gouvia. Service was warm and welcoming. Breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice. Evening meal was friendly and efficient table service with plenty of choice from a half board set menu. One of our party was vegetarian and there wasn’t much on the set menu to choose from so the lovely Spirodoula allowed him to choose from the main menu at no extra cost. The food was very tasty and so much that we were unable to finish it. Alcohol was paid for but at very reasonable cost I had Rose wine which came as a huge glass at much better value than any where else we visited. The restaurant at the Front is open to the public also so we always chose to sit there so we could chill, take in the music and people watch. The pool was small but lovely and peaceful, no rushing for beds and claiming with towel’s there were lots available at all times of day. The hotel is advertised as being on a main road - I wouldn’t let this put you off - the main road is n’t like those at home it is actually very quiet and the busiest it gets is a couple of cars and moped passing by. Our room was at the front and we were never disturbed by traffic noise the hotel was extremely peaceful but ideally situated for shops, the marina, the beach, the bus, restaurants etc. We did lots of visits during our stay so I would definately recommend a visit to ‘The Madelena’ tourist shop just down the road where you can book trips and get local advice to make the most of your trip. Here we booked a trip to Albania. Kassiopi -definately worth a visit and the helpful Nicoletta advised us to get the bus to Dassia beach 5 mins away which had a fab vibe. The hotel is ideally situated for the nearby Blue bus into Corfu town. The green bus to Paleostratsika where I would recommend you get a boat trip to visit the caves and then get dropped off at a hidden cove to swim for a few hours. All the buses run about every half hour and can get to most places for about two euros and within half an hour pay in the bus if you want but from Corfu town it is cheaper (less than two euros each) to buy your tickets from the cabin first, plus you can jump the bus queue. Overall a fab little hidden treasure if a hotel ideally situated in the centre of a very chilled resort to take in the island sights. Would definately recommend the Kassiopi boat trip from the marina where you visit the village and then have two swim stops the final one being from the boat where you can jump from the top deck and swim through a cave - fantastic. Also the Chicken souvlaki, Sofriti fillet and starter of fried saganaka cheese was delicious. Thankyou so much to all the staff for making us feel welcome xxx
