Gvulot - Kibbutz Experience

We were part of a group of over 30 elderly pensioners who spent two nights at this place, on a half-board basis. While the rooms were fully equipped, air-conditioned, (a pre-requisite in the Negev temperatures), with a kitchenette, TV, and small fridge, they were shabby with visible stains of dampness and peeling paint. The bathroom is so cramped that one has to maneuver considerably in order to get in. Sleep quality though is surprisingly pretty good due to the quietness of the kibbutz at night and the comfortable mattress on the double bed. Since obviously on this type of trip most of the day is spent on excursions and local attractions, one faces the hotel again during breakfasts and dinners. Regrettably on both, the hotel fares poorly. Service is indifferent, eggs are cold and salads damp and soggy. Dinners aren't better with the same types of sad chicken portions, and again repetitive unappealing food. Maybe the worst part is the removal of the food remnants from the plates in the dish-cleaning carousel. Really disgusting. If the hotel wants ever to get better reviews from its guests having dinners there- it must find another way of clearing the tables and dishes. Cleanliness and flies are other issues. In summary, while the rooms, with little more attendance and renovation, could actually get a higher mark, the public dining room, the food, and the "clearing" activity afterward drag its rating down considerably.
