Hondaafushi Island Resort

I had an extremely disappointing experience at this resort, and I feel it’s important to share my story to help others avoid similar pitfalls. Before we arrived, we contacted the property regarding our flight arrangements. They promised to provide details 5-7 days prior to our arrival, but when the time came, we received no updates. We attempted to reach out again about our domestic flight tickets, but our inquiries went unanswered. Upon arriving at Male airport, we visited the hotel office a day before our scheduled transfer to the resort, only to discover that our names were not on the list. After some back-and-forth, a representative assured us we would receive information that evening, leaving us completely in the dark until the last moment. It was incredibly frustrating to be so far from home without any clear communication. To add to our troubles, a few days into our stay, we received a call from reception demanding additional taxes that were never mentioned in our booking or invoice. They claimed it was a new government tax for tourists, totaling an unexpected $250! It’s hard to fathom that they couldn’t inform us of this charge ahead of time, especially since they had a month to do so. Imagine a family of four or five being caught off guard by such a fee! We requested to speak with the manager for clarification, but he was unavailable. Instead, a junior staff member was left to address our concerns. How can a resort operate effectively without its management being accessible? Agoda even attempted to intervene regarding this issue, but they were ignored for two full months. As for the food, it deserves a mention. It was the worst dining experience we've ever had! They recycled fish and cheese balls for days until they became inedible, and the food preparation was subpar and monotonous. The instant mashed potatoes and flavorless ice cream were particularly disappointing—truly the worst ice cream I’ve ever tasted. The desserts were mediocre at best. My dogs eat better! The bread was stale, at least 4-5 days old, and there was no toaster available. When I inquired about a toaster, I was told it was broken. We were literally left hungry. The Accommodation: Regarding the accommodation, the water pressure in the bathroom was unreliable, and while the shower appeared appealing, it posed a significant slipping hazard. I unfortunately lost my footing and sustained a serious cut on my finger. The beach adjacent to the bungalows frequently experienced strong winds and large waves, rendering swimming nearly unfeasible. To make matters worse, we discovered a syringe hidden in the sand. I genuinely question the circumstances surrounding this location. The island is quite large, which means that guests with limited mobility may require a buggy to reach the restaurant or bar. However, the availability of buggies is not guaranteed, and guests may experience a wait time of 15 to 20 minutes. In summary, I would not contemplate revisiting this island,

We booked our stay through RCI and paid. After paying we were told to pay additional fees for meals which we paid and was expected. We were further required to a further additional charge per day of 51 dollars per person for the festive season, which were we forced to pay as they refused to book our flights in if we didn't pay this over and above the already full board charge. When we got to the island the food was horrific, the poorest quality, and hardly any decent food. We basically lived on eggs and toast for breakfast and dinners were pathetic with people angry and competing to get to the little chicken provided. You are also not allowed to bring alcohol to the island.This hotel is the biggest rip off ever, we practically starved most days as we could not eat most of the food. I would not recommend staying here. The staff are kind and courteous. But we wasted thousands of dollars as there was hardly much food or variety for anyone. Biggest loss for me and my family and friends

Really loved the island was lovely beaches lovely and white turquoise sea was amazing. Resort so clean and tidy. The fruit bats were really big. Saw sharks and manta rays and loads of fish even saw turtle. Really really enjoyed our stay the food was lovely. The fruit girl was so polite and friendly. Just a shame mine and my husbands phones went missing. Upon check out they tried to charge us for a chair I sat on and the seat dipped down at one side and a coffee table which just broke at the joints. Although in the end they didn’t charge us. The mini bar is expensive and the cigarettes from the shop are $40 for 20. Overall really enjoyed our stay

Do not book this resort if you want to have a good holidays. We booked Deluxe room for 6000 euros (villa numbers 100-115), for extra money because we knew that other rooms are really very bad. And guess what, today 03.02.2025, after arrival, we got normal room 129, and the reception did not even inform us that the room is of wrong category. Fortunately, this is not our first visit and we could recognise that. Imagine if somebody goes to this resort first time, pays extra for a good room and get bad one. Then they just stay in a bad one the whole stay. It is a FRAUD. Just one small addition, in the arrival day, there is no water in WC and in bath. Think twice before you book Hondaafushi resort!!! There are a lot of better ways to spend holidays!

Hondaafushi – sehr ausführlicher Bericht … Traum Malediven….. Türkisblaues, glasklares Wasser, traumhafte weiße verlassene Strände, saftiges Grün im Inselinneren umgeben von einem Farbenspiel am Horizont. Was möchte ich, mich einfach nur verwöhnen lassen, z. B. in einem Wasserbungalow mitten im Indischen Ozean, Gourmethäppchen mit prickelndem Champagner im eigenen Pool genießen. Die Angebote sind vielfältig …. Oder…. Hondaafushi ein traumhaftes Resort umgeben von der Ursprünglichkeit der Malediven. Lange Anreise, die sich jedoch lohnt. Relativ große ca. 2000 m lange und 500 m breite Insel, die zu längeren Spaziergängen einlädt, um die vielen Facetten zu entdecken. An den unberührten Ständen lässt sich zum Teil noch der Ursprung durch Lavagesteinsplatten erkennen. Und man kann Verstecke wie eine Schaukel mit romantischem Ausblick am Dschungelrand finden. Auch die „Arche“ haben wir bei Erkundungen entdeckt. Beeindruckend zu erwähnen wären hier auch die Seegraswiesen. Spaziergänge durch das Inselinnere auf den Wegen ist auch hier barfuß möglich. Die einzigartig unberührten Strände sind sehr sauber, kein angeschwemmter Müll. Der Dschungel ist atemberaubend mit einer vielfältigen Vegetation. Allein dies so zu sehen ist die weite Anreise Wert. Schon im Empfangsbereich kann man die Schuhe hinter sich lassen. Rezeption mit Sandboden und neuen Sitzbereichen großzügig im Sand liebevoll angelegt. Restaurant mit Sandboden und freiem Blick auf die Lagune. Man hat immer seinen eigenen Tisch und rückt immer weiter nach vorne zum besten Ausblick, so hat jeder einmal freie Sicht. Man wird liebevoll von Lila und dem restlichen Personal begrüßt. Gewohnheiten und Bedürfnisse sind nach kurzer Zeit bekannt und werden immer mit einem Lächeln ausgeführt. Vielfältiges Frühstück mit teils wechselnden warmen Angeboten und wie zu allen Mahlzeiten immer frische Früchte. Wöchentlich Themenabende mit vielfältigen Angeboten. Auch hier wird versucht Abwechslung in den einzelnen Themen anzubieten. Die Live-Cooking Station bietet morgens, mittags und abends immer lecker Angebote. Täglich frische Salatauswahl, leckere Kuchen und Dessertauswahl. Unser Bungalow war sehr sauber und es sah alles frisch renoviert aus. Auch die Türen waren frisch gestrichen. Witterungsbedingt sieht man schon einige Spuren an Türen im Außenbereich und Gegenständen aus Metall. Aber dass hier ständig versucht wird alles in Stand zu setzen kann man erkennen. Shampoo, Duschgel, Conditioner, Lotion, Seife, Duschhaube, Fön, Bademantel, Personenwaage, Taschenlampe, Safe, täglich frische Handtücher und Strandhandtücher, eigene Standliegen mit Auflagen, alles vorhanden. Ein Blick hinter die Kulissen zeigte, dass auch dieses Resort sehr viel zum Umweltschutz beiträgt. Müll wird getrennt, Küchenabfälle kompostiert und im eigenen Garten viel frisches Gemüse, Obst, Kräuter und Salat liebevoll angebaut. Die guten Bewertungen bezüglich des Essens konnten wir absolut nicht nachvollziehen. Wir waren eigentlich sehr enttäuscht. Leider war es sehr eintönig und hauptsächlich vegetarisch. Die nächste Enttäuschung war die geschlossene Wassersport Basis mit der wir fix gerechnet haben. Somit gab es keine Aktivitäten vor Ort ausser schnorcheln. Die Insel selber ist wunderschön, aber man sollte wissen dass die Wege zum Restaurant und zur Bar ( das eine an einem Ende, das andere am anderen Ende des Weges ) wirklich weit sind. Mehr gibt es dort auch nicht.
