The Kingdom, Havelock

AVOID! The condition of the hotel was disgusting. There was mould growing on the walls and doors, exposed electrical wiring and cockroaches and other bugs in the rooms. The bathroom in our original room was leaking water all over the floor, and yes, when brought to the attention of the staff, they quickly changed our room. However, this one was no better with bugs on the bed, stains on the sheets and cockroaches running around the floor. The WiFi did not work in the rooms either, and there were dead bugs in the communal stairwell too, which should have been removed but weren't. When we phoned down to reception to enquire about breakfast, we were told this was not something they do, even though it is clearly listed on their adverts for the hotel at an additional cost. Although originally booked for 5 days, we left the next day due to both the uncleanliness of the hotel and the associated safety issues. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. I have attached some photos to highlight the condition of the hotel. Please save yourself the grief and expense of staying at this place.

So we went to Havelock to do some diving and The Kingdom was well located to some highly rated dive shops. We checked the online reviews which appeared to make the choice a safe bet. Oops… NOT! We checked in rather late but could not help noticing that there was work in progress on the ground and 1st floors. Then we got to the rooms and, sorry, but you wouldn’t want your worst enemy to stay there: dirty sheets, dead bugs everywhere, no hot water (no water for a shower at all!?!), and the WiFi was down. So the next morning we decide to walk around the premises: open holes in the floors, live wires floating from the ceiling, mold on the walls, and excuse us, one room’s door was completely crumpled in, like someone had tried to break through. The dining room was a giant tool shop for the workers who were obviously doing major renovations on the entire hotel. We were on the 2nd floor and apparently, they hadn’t gotten around tho this yet. So we decided to leave, the place was too unsafe and a mega health hazard. But guess what: we try and check out and the hotel refuses to accept that we leave!?! So we had to get the police involved (who were great by the way). So all in all a major hassle. And to make matters worse, the hotel refuses to reimburse us. So here is our advice: STAY AWAY. Don’t ruin your holiday by going to The Kingdom. It’s a real dump and the staff don’t know the first thing about customer service.

I stayed in their Wooden Duplex Cottages for 3 nights with my mates and the experience was outstanding. We were surrounded by greenery and coconut trees all around. The garden and greenery were very well maintained and it was as if the property belonged to us as other guests were staying for a shorter duration. The support staff is really friendly and responsible, they organised our whole trip.

I absolutely enjoyed it here. I was near the harbour and I saw this hotel. It has a huge frontage and I loved the way it was maintained, so I entered the property. It had a positive vibe, I saw the rooms and decided to stay here. It was a sudden decision but a good decision indeed. There were no severe power cuts but there were a few but those are regular they say and were very well tackled by their backup generator.

I have visited many hotels and stayed in numerous hotels and resorts, this is the most cherished memory ever of enjoying with my family and staying here. The outdoors are neat and clean, the swimming pool is well maintained, the food is great and the atmosphere is positive. The amenities and facilities are proper.

I experienced a calm and peaceful stay here. It was really a delightful experience and we enjoyed a lot. The staff was cooperative and as mentioned in several other reviews there were no power cuts and everything was smooth. Due to winds there were times when they had to operate generators that we could feel as there was a time delay in switching between the two.
