We paid £120 to stay in the 'Alan' room for one evening. Check-in was unconventional. There is a sign instructing guests to ring the bell, but after 10 minutes of waiting with no response, we noticed another sign directing us to call a mobile number for service. We were then asked to take a seat and waited another 10 minutes for someone to attend to us. Initially, there was a mix-up between the room we had booked and the room we were given, but this was eventually resolved. The lady checking us in said it was due to an external company not passing on information - even though the booking was all done direct through the web site, even with a pre arrival registration card being completed and ignored. The room was well below our expectations. There were stains on the soft furnishings and bed linen, and the pillows were very old and soiled, with no pillow protectors. There was a foul smell of drains, and the room felt cold & very damp, with no climate control. The whole place felt generally unclean and dusty. The bed mattress was also in poor condition, leading to a poor nights sleep. In our opinion, the pictures on the website are misleading- presenting as a premium venue , however, the whole experience was very budget. We recommend viewing the room and grounds before booking- especially if you are considering it as a wedding venue! The breakfast was okay, but the floor in the breakfast room looked like it hadn't been cleaned in days. The grounds are overgrown and unkept, badly in need of maintenance. With the right investment, this place could be stunning, but it's clear everything is being done on a shoestring budget.
