Stone House Hotel

The hotel, a lovely converted house, is on a valley side looking downwards towards the the river at Hawes and upwards towards the fell tops. It is surrounded by beautiful gardens with lots of places to sit and enjoy the views. The room we had was spacious and decorated such that gave it an atmosphere of calm comfort The food was never less that excellent. The fish cooking was equal to the best we have ever tasted. The most important thing was the staff. Without exception they were friendly (without being intrusive) helpful, cheerful and had the ability to make us feel completely at home. Our five day stay was perfect, so much so the we have already booked for a slightly longer stay nest year.

From the moment you arrive ( and even before - as all my questions were answered in a more than adequate way) you feel welcome and at home in this wonderfully luxurious but tastefully warm historic house, where the fantastic food, the comfortable beds, the many cosy corners to sit and relax but most of all the fantastic staff will make you hate to leave. Don't expect the often over-the-top stiff and fake hospitality-friendliness one often encounters in this type of top-class establishment. Here everybody radiates a very positive and truly friendly attitude, with the focus on your well-being and nothing else. Well behaved dogs are very welcome here, and that only adds to the nice country-feeling. We've travelled a lot, but have encountered very few places - if any- like this one. Highly recommended !

I wanted to stay at a classy country hotel for a big birthday and this did not disappoint! We were warmly greeted on arrival and shown directly to our room which was immaculate. We went for a superior room which appeared to be a bit more spacious than the double rooms, and it was worth it, especially due to the hot weather experienced during our stay! We had our evening meal at the hotel which was amazing. The sticky toffee pudding was to die for! Breakfast was very special too with so much choice and extremely good coffee! I would have no hesitation in recommending staying at Stone House Hotel if you are looking for a special treat. Everything about it was so lovely!
