We reserved a room at Motel 70 through *******. When we arrived at 7:20 pm on a Friday night, there were no cars in the parking lot, not even an employee’s car, and the entrance was also partially blocked off by small red cones. The place looked abandoned, with tufts of grass growing between the cracks, so we figured that they had been closed for awhile. While we were sitting there trying to figure out where we were going to stay now, a man dragging a large garbage bag appeared out of nowhere. We felt very uncomfortable, between no cars in the parking lot, the abandoned feel of the property, and now a strange bag man appearing out of nowhere, so we left. An hour later, I called Motel 70 to let them know that we had been there, but that their motel looked closed and we felt unsafe, so we wouldn’t be coming back for the night. He said that they were open, took my last name, then said okay. When we got home a few days later from our vacation, we discovered that they had charged us for the room anyway. I called them, and after a long discussion, asked if they could at least meet me halfway and return half of my money. He said no, and kept saying that his motel was very clean, which wasn’t my issue. So, they kept the full amount that we paid ($95.65: $89 plus $6.65 tax), and were probably able to rent the room to new customers for the night, even though he told me on the phone that he hadn’t been able to do that. My husband and I had stayed at six other hotels on our trip to Colorado and back, and this was the only one that treated us unfairly. Lesson learned…we will NEVER stay at Motel 70 in High Hill, Missouri in the future!
