Kapama River Lodge

FAR exceeded anything I imagined. This place was soooooo nice. The stone and natural elements used made it absolutely beautiful. The service was spectacular. The food was decent (I’m not a foodie). Menu changed daily. Great vegan menu. Plenty to choose from if you’re picky. The game drives were amazing. Yes this place is enclosed but not at the river and it’s 40000 acres. The animals aren’t fed, they hunt. The brush/trees are tall so animals can be hard to see but a lot of them use the roads. The Land Rover was awesome. Very comfortable and great suspension. Not getting tossed all over. The guides are very professional and knowledgeable. We only did two nights but I wish we would have done 3-4. I would have cut back on the safaris and just enjoyed the lodge more, not that the safaris weren’t amazing. The lodge facilities were amazing though and I would have liked to do more pool time. No regrets though. Probably the best experience I’ve ever had and I travel internationally maybe 3-5 times a year on average. Amazing staff too!!! All inclusive is awesome. Really no adds unless you want a really expensive shot of top shelf whiskey or something.

This is a stunning hotel but out game drive was sadly a bit scant on sightings. I guess that this is just how it goes sometimes - although visitors hoping to see cheetah should know there are none on the reserve - also only about 60 elephants which felt like small for the size of the reserve. The food was wonderful and the staff were very helpful. I found the babysitting service especially convenient and was confident in their abilities to take care of my fairly young baby.

This was the most amazing trip of our lives, and we have travelled a great deal. Everything about the three days that we spent at Kapama was divine. This is very well run operation, and though expensive, you get a huge amount for your money. The setting and design of the lodges is superb. The interiors are exquisite, if you like that kind of thing, which I do and the design of the gardens and pools are magic. The rooms are extremely luxurious and soooo comfortable. The food and drinks are beyond amazing - we have never eaten such consistently good food in a hotel anywhere, And the packages include everything - all food and drjnks including alcohol - which is provided in almost overwhelming quantity. The only things we paid for were our massages in the exquisite spa overlooking the lake where a mother and baby hippo hung out. And where we also saw buffalo and rhino. You get safaris twice a day and can request bush walks as well. Our guide and his tracker were incredibly knowledgeable and skilled. We saw so, so many animals in so many different conditions and really, truly at arms length. All of the service was offered with low key attention to detail and wonderful African charm. We cannot recommend this place enough and would be back there in an instant if we could.

We stayed at Kapama for 3 nights and did 6 safari drives. Every drive was an adventure with beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife. Our guide and tracker went out of their way to explain the many observations including what we were seeing, behavior and habits of all the wildlife and insects (dung beetles), types and uses of various plants. We learned so much! The accommodations, food and staff are absolutely 1st class!
