Spark by Hilton Homewood Birmingham

Appears Hilton has purchased Country Inn and Suites for a lower cost brand. Pretty spartan but for $111 including taxes what can you expect. Located out of the way next to a Lowe’s. Clean, safe, and functional which is what we needed for a one night stay. Continental breakfast was good. And I’m Hilton Diamond and Marriott Platinum so have a fair amount of experience staying in hotels over the years.

We have stayed in MANY hotels some being great....some being horrible. We have stayed in other Country Inns& Suites that we loved, but we will not be going back to this one. Upon checking in we were not greeted. The only words offered were ID..form of payment...sigh here. We were handed the key and was not offered any other information. A smile would of been nice. When we entered the room it seemed OK visible there was no signs of it being dirty. When it was getting close to bed time I pulled out the sofa bed...NASTY! First off the cushions were dirty and ripped...the mattress was covered in various stains in which one I could identify was blood....no mattress cover. I did do a visible check for bed bugs ( I do this in ALL hotels) none were found. There were no sheets available for the sofa bed had to go to front desk and ask for them. One of the reasons for choosing this hotel was the outdoor pool and hot tub....after driving 12 hours the adults were looking forward to that. We never got the chance to use it due to the fact that there was several out of town construction workers staying here. They were hanging out at the pool and were allowed ( I say allowed because there was a hotel worker witness this) to drink...cuss..and act foolish..tipping there cigarette ashes They were also on our floor..we just felt very unsafe here. Breakfast was OK but ( I maybe wrong) I thought country inns & suites selling points were breakfast was served on real China dishes not foam plates. We will not be back at this location.

Terrible hotel. The staff has zero personality. From checking in, coming in and out over two days to checkout. They just stare at you like you’ve done something wrong. The temperature in the room wouldn’t go below 76 degrees. The window was broken. There was blood or something gross on the curtains. Perhaps from the broken window? The shower curtain had something all over it. I cringe to think what was in the carpet. I informed the guy at the front desk and he could care less. This was the quality of some $60 crap highway motel.
