Villa Magalean Hotel and Spa

Wonderful little hotel with luxurious, chic and well appointed rooms. We stayed in the junior suite, which was large with a separate sitting area and balcony overlooking the gardens. Very well located on a quiet street, only a few minutes walk to all bars and restaurants and just across the street from the bus to San Sebastian. Staff is eager to please and very helpful with reservations and suggestions. Breakfast is tasty, and Hondarribia is a terrific choice for a base in the area.

I spent a weekend with my husband in Villa Magalean in April. The hotel is very elegant, nicely decorated, better equipped than many boutique hotels I’ve been to. The rooms are spotless and very comfortable, so much that we asked for the brand of the beds! The staff prepare the room for the night by opening the beds and closing the curtains which is a very nice touch. The hotel has a small but very nice spa with Cinq Mondes products. We had a nice massage and enjoyed the sauna for a bit. It’s hard to find bad food in the Bask Country, but the breakfast in the hotel was amazing! We could choose what we want from the night before to have a personalized breakfast. Last but not least, the staff were very friendly and professional. Definitely recommended!

Absolutely wonderful stay at this boutique Villa... The facilities are top quality and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful! The breakfast service is fantastic and we had dinner there once, which was very good but a bit over-priced. Marta and Maite provide d excellent service to us during our 2 night stay!

Beautifully restored old villa, which has become a boutique small hotel. Some aspects were gorgeous, e.g. very comfy bed, lovely linen, and well appointed bathroom. Parking (at cost) possible in the garden. Delightful, very friendly staff. But just a few things went less well. Heating controlled at reception, in theory not a problem, but, if you prefer a cool bedroom for sleeping, be prepared for a VERY cold bathroom in the morning. Breakfast felt just a touch too “manicured” and fussy, for example with a variety of bread/brioche/cake options - but as we don’t eat the last two items, would have preferred to have been able to choose. Presentation impeccable, but fine dining portions - made smaller by the items we couldn’t eat! Offered cheese and ham, and surprised that it wasn’t Spanish ham. Appreciate that this near the border it really does cater to a French clientele, with prices reflecting this. Certainly this is not a cheap option. Was it worth it? For us the jury’s out.

Fantastic hotel in every way - best place to stay in Hondaribbia. The ambiance was very pleasant, staff attentive, Mahasti wine bar had fantastic food for breakfast and dinner and extensive and good wine list. 5 stars all round. We’ll be back

Villa Magalean is a superb under the radar boutique hotel in the charming village of Hondarribia. This small gem pays attention to every detail. Our room was quite spacious and beautifully appointed. Fantastic bathroom. The common rooms are lovely as well as the outdoor garden. Everything is beautifully decorated. Very high class. Breakfast was served at the hotel's restaurant and it was great. Fresh and delicious. We also had dinner one evening at the hotel which was very good. The staff is kind and helpful to you in any way. They suggested restaurants and booked for us. I highly recommend this fantastic hotel.
