Holiday Inn Express Houghton-Keweenaw

The room had a mini-fridge with small freezer compartment and it also had a microwave. The bathroom had a shower/tub combo. Despite the anti-slip surface on the tub, it was still a little slippery. Fortunately there was a safety grab bar available. Showerhead was adjustable. Water pressure was okay. The hotel backs right up against a very large hill so the view from the room is just that...a large hill of dirt and rocks. If you want more of a view, ask for a room facing the front of the property. The hotel had a guest laundry with one washer and one dryer. Cost was $2 in quarters for the washer, $2 in quarters for the dryer. Laundry was open 24 hours. The hotel also had a small market. They offered a complimentary breakfast and complimentary parking. Front desk staff was professional but not particularly personable.

Enjoyable stay. The hotel and rooms were clean. The beds were comfortable. The staff were super helpful! There was a pool for the kids to spend some time in. Really everything we wanted or needed! An enjoyable play to spend the night while exploring the Keweenaw peninsula!

Overall this is a nice property and a good value. The room was clean and beds were comfortable and air flow good and there was plenty of space for us and our suitcases. Got what I requested too...quiet side of hotel and not near an elevator. There was a helpful white board with restaurant recommendations too. The staff even phoned to alert me, just shortly after we'd checked out and moved on to our next city, that I'd forgotten a nightlight in the wall plug. In my book this is excellent customer service and it was really appreciated! One thing I would suggest is more frequent cleaning of the elevator interior doors, buttons and front panel. I would definitely recommend the property to others.

Great room with a fridge, tub, TV - all the comforts of home. The surprise was in the housekeeping - not what I would have wanted. The beds weren't made, nor were the surfaces cleaned each day. I guess this is the new-normal that housekeeping doesn't happen every day. Using this hotel in the future, I'd be tempted to make separate bookings for each day so that we always got a fresh room.

One of the best Holiday Inns out there. We had the family suite which includes a separate area with bunk beds for the kids. Brilliant design for parents that want to stay up later or watch their own tv. The staff is also one of the best out there. From housekeeping, breakfast, front desk, general manager, everyone was very kind. The pool area was always clean and had a wonderful sauna to enjoy. We enjoyed our stay very much.

We made reservations for 3 nights here back in Dec 2021 as we are an IHG member and they had the best reviews/lowest prices for our August stay in Houghton MI. We were here to ride the western part of the UP and then head east. We had picked up a book for motorcycle riders called U.P. Cruising that told about roads/attractions/lodging/restaurants for bikers that also offered a discount if you visited them. This Holiday Inn Express offered 15% of your rate. When we got checked in I asked the front desk staff if they honored this, she said "hmmm, I've never heard of this, does the group go by another name"? She said she would check with her manager and let me know. Appr 30 minutes later she calls our room and said since already got the discount on our room, he could not honor that. I said so since i am an IHG member your are screwing me out of a 15% discount, which on 3 nights we paid almost $700 and could of saved almost $100?? She said that was the managers reason because normally that room is $300+ a night and you got it for $200.....I said that is a pathetic reason and i will make sure i put that out there on social media. Terrible shower water pressure, mediocre breakfast. Comfortable bed.

What I appreciated most about this stay was how helpful the people were. Our first room's air conditioner wasn't working. When we called down to explain, they offered to have us move rooms or have maintenance come up right away. The willingness to make things comfortable quickly is something I really appreciated! More so, the rooms were clean, quiet (other than loud, shutting doors), and well maintained. The hotel is not downtown but is located in a way that one could get almost anywhere quickly!

The Holiday Inn Express in Houghton is clean and comfortable. The hotel was renovated not long ago with the most recent Holiday Inn Express design, although there were some flaws and areas that weren't updated. In particular, the bathroom. The shower-tub and toilet is in a separate room from the sink and mirror. That's not ideal. Also, the bathroom light switch is also the exhaust fan switch. So you can't turn on the light without turning on the fan. My room was supposedly a suite but there was no separated area for the sofa and coffee table. Calling it a suite is not an accurate room description. The breakfast is back to a normal pre-COVID Holiday Inn Express breakfast. Basic but with enough for everyone. I appreciated the local newspapers, the stocked pantry, and even the postcards. The gym was well-equipped, although the TVs on the treadmills did not work. The newer Matrix treadmills were also missing the hand grips. Staff were young and polite. Not particularly well-trained. I was never greeted my name nor thanked for staying. My photo ID was not verified when I needed a replacement set of keys. Parking is shared with a big box store, which isn't ideal. There also isn't a shuttle to downtown, which is a little bit of an issue since the hotel doesn't have a bar or restaurant. It would be nice if the hotel at least sold beer and wine. All things considered, the Holiday Inn Express is a better than average chain hotel in a town without many good hotels. I would consider staying here again, although the brand new Hampton Inn downtown along the waterfront has a better location.

Outstanding place to stay for Michigan Tech families! This was our second stay, and we were fortunate to get a room for move-in weekend. The rooms are clean, well-equipped and comfortable. The front desk staff was very good, even for a packed weekend, and it is a great place to bring pets. Food and shopping are nearby, and it is a short trip to downtown Houghton and Hancock, with plenty of food options there. It is a top pick for anyone staying in Houghton, and its pet-friendly policies make it even better.
