Maples Motel

Steve, the owner is awesome. Love his cats. Very relaxed, homey motel. We stayed here for a weekend of exploring Marblehead Stage Park and going to Cedar Point. Simple and cozy. The rooms are modest but comfortable, and they are clean. Thanks Steve!

This family owned hotel’s very best feature is its price and it’s second best feature is its proximity to Cedar Point. Staff is excellent, the grounds are lovely with impressive six-hundred year old maple trees and plush emerald grass and I would honestly stay again in the summer season—but with ear plugs. It’s immaculately clean. If you just need to lay horizontal, this is great. The not-so-great is that there is a freight train 200 hundred feet from your head that blows its whistle many, many, many times night and day that I haven’t seen a single other review mention. The beds are terribly uncomfortable and the A/C works well but is also exceptionally loud. Somehow it smelled musty but I don’t know why because like I said the A/C worked like a champ. It lacked a microwave but had a mini fridge. Can’t comment on the WI-FI or TV because we didn’t use either. The interior is ancient but this didn’t bother me. The pool wasn’t open in June which was disappointing. Overall for the cost, I’d do it again. I’d just bring earplugs and a sound dampening machine. Despite its flaws this was probably the most memorable little spot I’ve ever stayed in and we had a blast. We honestly loved it, warts and all.

We booked in here after reading various reviews. The owner checked us in and was very friendly explaining that the pool was out of action because the weather had been too cold for him to get it ready for the season. Within 10 minutes in our room we had found 4 spiders and 2 flying bugs of some description. The bathroom light was only half working and the bedside lamps were very dusty. There was no way I was going to be able to sleep knowing there were spiders so we decided to go elsewhere. I went back to return the keys and wished the guy good luck but said it wasn't for us. When he asked why, I explained about the bugs and spiders and he said we were in the country - what do you expect? Well, I expect a bug free room for one. In the end, we found a new Tru in Sandusky that was only $49 more, clean, friendly and bug free. We didn't get a refund on our stay so it was an expensive night all in all.

This place is a throw back to the 1950's and 60's. When we pulled in I was taken back to my childhood and the places we used to stay. The places that still had great customer service and the owner knew your name when you left. This is that place! It's quant and quiet and the owner, Steve is amazing! The prices are great and we definitely will be back!!!
