Gwango Heritage Resort

What a wonderful place to stay. The staff were super friendly and service excellence was shown at all times. Only remark I want to leave is that a kettle in the lodge would be nice.

Lovely hotel. We stayed in a family chalet: warm, quirky and with a balcony from which we could watch elephant and monkeys using the small watering hole. The main body of the hotel is nice and as advertised, with the roof top pool being visited by elephants whilst our children were in the pool - a unique experience (trunks dipping in from down below to sip the tasty water). The food was only average though - but that's not why you come...

We initially booked for three nights and tayed four in the end. Gwango is the perfect combination of reasonable prices and comfort, with super-friendly and caring staff. Our bungalow clean and basic, but stylish. Not much hot water.. The food was generally OK/good, and there was an excellent SA cabernet sauvignon for $10 a bottle. We booked one whole-day drive initially. Previous reviews were mixed about inexperienced guides and stalling jeeps. Our experience was the opposite. Carlos may only be 27 but he has qualifications, experience, and an uncanny ability to spot and identify animals! We booked three more half-day drives with him and saw everything! The elephants drinking out of the hotel swimming pool and the cosy fire pit were fun too.

Gwango Heritage Resort is located near the main gate of Hwange National Park and offers campsites as well as 30 cabins. You find a lobby, restaurant & bar (all three outside, and chilly in winter), and at the first floor a pool overlooking the elephant waterhole. There are family cabins with two double beds, and bush cabins with two single beds. The resort is accessible by road, however for the park you need a 4x4. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The latter is surprisingly tasty. Service is friendly. We had a modest, isolated bush cabin with 2 single-beds plus mosquito nets, desk & chair, and standing fan. Window can open and they have mosquito screens. No airco or heating, no tea facility. The in-room bathroom had washbasin, shower & toilet and provides little privacy. All was clean. Gwango Heritage Resort is a well-maintained safari lodge & camping, and we had an enjoyable stay. Recommended.

Great stay at Gwango (couple with 2 teenagers aged 16 & 17). Self drived from Victoria falls (4wd vehicle very helpful even on main road). Food excellent - pancakes & skillet for breakfast , stews (meat & vegetable ) or grilled meat with rice or elephant bread. They were able to do gluten free catering for our son who has coeliac with the no adverse effects (chef even made gluten free muffins for the early morning drives) Went on an organised morning drive & also self drove in the national park. Saw elephants, lion, kudu, impala, wart hog, baboons All staff at Gwango friendly & helpful Would definitely recommend & return !
