The Haven Hotel

What a special place - Sue runs a great Hotel. First time to the Haven and we will be back. It is not fancy but it packs a great punch for setting and food and service. Friendly, warm and inviting - down to the horse on the verandah. A place to wind down and count your blessings. Safe and well worth the drive. Set in a magnificent reserve - you feel one with nature immediately. Loved my stay there.

The staff was friendly and caring, even in terms of guiding us to the Hotel they kept calling to check if we are still safe and on the right track, after we got there the warmth of the staff was very overwhelming from the security guard, to the reception staff, kitchen staff ohh the food was divine.

We spent a wonderful 2 nights at the Haven Hotel as part of our Transkei Road Trip. Everyone at The Haven was warm, friendly and hospitable - even helping us plan the adventurous next leg of our Road Trip. The accommodation is clean and neat with views over the sea and to the lighthouse. The meals are delicious, served buffet style in the dining room and the food is plentiful (we felt obliged to do some fabulous long walks to work off the delicious meals :) ). We will definitely be back.

Please do yourself a favour and visit The Haven. It is a taste of the past, with lazy days relaxing, walking on the pristine beach, enjoying three meals a day (inclusive). There are hikes for the energetic, or a comfy lounge for the less so. Staff are happy to assist with any query. The road from the N2 is not wonderful, but take it easy and you’ll be rewarded with a little piece of Heaven at the end. And of course the Saturday evening sea-food buffet is the business!

Great place; nice food and people; buildings a bit old but a super place. The location is superb, remote and well protected in the confines of a conservation park. The ideal place to relax and get away from the hustle of a busy life.

Every second year our whole family goes away together. This year we chose The Haven. People have raved about the hotel. However, our stay was not pleasant at all. Firstly, despite the history of load shedding in the country, the place was woefully unprepared for outages. This was exacerbated when a drunk driver knocked down one of the electrical poles which support power to the hotel. So, of the seven days that we spent there, we had no hot water for four days. Also, it is pitch black outside at night and there are no solar lights. They give each cottage a candle. Try using that outside to light your way to the lounge or dining room with a storm wind blowing. Also on several occasions, there was no water either. The staff tried their best under the circumstances. They had two generators which they used mainly in the kitchen. Despite these setbacks, the staff made sure that all meals were served on time. However, the food was mostly unimaginative but filling. Also, the roads to get to the hotel were terrible. Not the fault of the hotel, of course, but it made it nearly impossible to drive anywhere without a 4 x 4. The beach was excellent and safe, which made up for some of the disappointment. But, all in all, not a good experience. We will not be returning.
