The worst hotel ever. I have stayed on Boffin several times over the years and this year we couldn't get a booking elsewhere so we and another family stayed here. Firstly, I should have seen the signs when I was trying to ring and email them for months during the Autumn and winter to see when they were open and they never replied to my emails. Then I asked for a cot for the room. Well it never materialised. Thankfully we need it in the end. But we booked a family room and when we got there, there was a double bed and then a tiny couch. It didn't even look like a pull out couch. There were no blankets or sheets. I had booked for two adults and two children. They made up the couch but it didn't have a mattress and literally was a sheet over the couch pulled out for my four and five year olds. The double bed was tired and clearly needed to be replaced. The carpet has seen better days and the towels were scant. The pedal of the bin was broken and overall, the room felt grubby and old. Now to the hotel. It seemed there are about three or four staff running this place. There is no manager and nobody at reception half the time. Breakfast is a free for all, except there is no food. We were told at 9.40am that the chef was slowing down when we asked if there was any chance of a few eggs. There was a large walking group there every morning and they cleaned out the breakfast. The breakfast consists of sliced white pan for bread, a few rashers, sausages, pudding, beans and fried eggs if you are lucky. The lids for the hot containers are laid out on the couch. Classy. There were two yogurts on a table, a few big juice jugs with awful oj and a bowl of cornflakes with no cutlery or crockery. And that's it. The second day I barely got a cup of tea. We heard that lots of customers were going to Murray's for breakfast it was so bad here. There was nobody to help us with our bags to bring to the boat on check out but there was nobody at reception anyways. You leave your key in a basket at reception. The lift broke and someone complained and the lady turned off the lift. When we checked out, three cleaning staff were sitting on the landing of the hotel at 9am waiting to clean the room. How this place is open is beyond me but it's an island and there's demand for places so I guess people were desperate like us. The hotel is tired with fogged up windows, woodwork that needs a paint everywhere and sticky tables in the restaurant. At 200 euro a night it's not cheap and you would expect better. Do yourself a favour and avoid this Fawlty towers place at all times.
