South Palm Resort Maldives

We went there for our daughter’s birthday. The staffs went above and beyond to make this special day into one of the beautiful memories that we could give to our daughter. The kids really enjoyed their time in this property.

This is potentially a nice resort.  However, as many other reviews have stated their all inclusive policy totally ruins your holiday plans.  We booked a water villa so we could sunbathe, read and snorkel with privacy.  This cost us much more than normal villas but it was what we wanted. All inclusive is, however, not all inclusive. Unfortunately you cannot get drinks in the room as the mini bar is not included.  It is chargeable.  So we need to dry off,  walk to the bar (10 mins walk or get a shuttle).  Have your drink, walk back, reapply suncream and them half an hour later repeat the process.  We are avid readers and want to sit with a book and a beer in the evening.  We cannot do this either. We can either read in our room in the evening or go to the bar or restaurant where it us too dark to read.   This issue has ruined our holiday.  At Oblu Experience in Maldives last year we could take drinks to the room and do as we pleased. The same at Sunrise Attitude I'm Mauritius.  Both of these were amazing. When we complained to the manager of South Palm he spoke to my wife but he was not remotely interested in resolving the issue just saying repeatedly it was their policy. Clearly, as many other reviewers have noted, this is an issue.  The hotel is no more than 15% full so they are clearly trying to get as much money from people as possible as it is pretty unlikely they are currently breaking even.  I expect the hotel will close down if its occupancy doesn't increase.  This won't happen given how many people are complaining about this. Other issues The steps to the sea on our villa have two broken steps so it hard to get out of the sea   The bannister and guard rail both wobble ferociously if you lean on them due to age and /or not being varnished.  Decking is also aged and causes splinters so you need footwear.  Thes are basic maintenence issues.  The villas are positioned so that, unfortunately, you get very little sun to sunbathe on the sun terrace. Don't be swayed by the free 'butler service'  either.  Its just delivering room service (which is expensive). There is a bar nearer to the villas.  However it is chargeable.  It is manned with staff and they are the only people you ever see in there.  Not once have I seen a guest drinking in there.  Clearly paying for drink on top of all inclusive is not what customers  are prepared to do and is a waste of the hotels resources. Watching the Euro 2024 final they very kindly put it on the big screen and advertised this to guests.  Brilliant we thought!  Unfortunately they stopped serving drink just as the match kicked off which infuriated everyone there. Positives The island is truly picturesque.  The rest of the staff are truly amazing and nothing is too much trouble. The food is tasty and quite varied (given how few guests there are).  The water villas have nice spacious rooms. The potential is there to make it a holiday haven if they were to listen to what so many customer

Amazing Holiday at South Palm Resort. Everything was amazing, from the large beach villa with outside shower and direct access to the beach from a private patio to the staff who were all amazing, shout out to Magic from the restaurant. All staff went above and beyond, from cooks to bar staff and cleaning staff they were all very very good and welcoming. Eamon from the water sports centre was also very good and knowledgeable. Would defiantly recommend and would like to come back.

Our first trip to the Maldives. What a fabulous island blue sea, white sand. The staff were the best polite and ready to help at any time. Our beach villa was lovely. Sorry to say food not the best, often cold and had to ask to walk it up which they did willingly.

We absolutely loved this place! Every second. We stayed in a water villa which really made it special. Waking up to that view then being able to take a few steps and swim or snorkel was the best. We saw at least one turtle each day and on our last day we saw 3 rays, amazing! Although the villas were a ten min walk from the restaurant it was just a quick call to reception and a buggy appeared at the end of the walkway. We loved the food, it was just our cup of tea…rice, noodles, curries, etc. Desserts could have been more varied but we always found something. Drinks were served to your table. I kept reading how great the staff were….its sooo true. All absolutely lovely. Ali was our ‘butler’ and we loved him. Also Soli in the restaurant was the best! All restaurant and bar staff were also fab. The entertainment was mixed but we made the most of it. Singing competition (hubby won), we judged an international talent show but the rest was quite poor, so we just drank and chatted to other guests. We met so many lovely people! We did the dolphin trip and shark feeding/night fishing. Both trips were great, especially the shark feeding, although I personally wish the fishing wasn’t part of the shark trip. Would have preferred to just see the sharks. We never like to holiday in the same place twice but we both said we’d love to come back to South Palm. Loved it!!

We have been to 9 resorts. We liked it everywhere, the staff was also good, but at South Palm Resort it was especially welcoming, ready to fulfill any of our wishes. We felt really pampered. We took an opportunity to change our rooms from beach villa to water villa, thus enjoying all the advantages that each of them provides. We received a complimentary excursion to the neighboring island and a barbecue dinner on the beach. The hotel didn't stop surprising us by gifting and delivering champagne with snacks to the room. We checked out and went home before lunch had started, and the hotel prepared take away lunch boxes for us. The night before, I asked if it was possible to get something different to the usual sandwiches, e.g., Maldivian food and some fruit and they accommodated this. We received food very nicely packed in boxes. When we opened it at the airport, we were again pleasantly surprised - one box contained our favourite Maldivian food, the other fruit and cupcakes. So delicious! We were very happy and grateful to the South Palm Resort and especially to the girl at the reception (unfortunately I don't know her name) who organized it all. Brilliant staff! Of course, everything else was also very good - a beautifully tidy island, comfortable, spacious rooms. A small drawback - there is nowhere to hide from the sun on the terraces of water villas. It would be nice to have parasols on the terrace, otherwise you have to spend all your time outside in direct sunlight. A very wide lagoon. Only most of it is covered with water grass, so the water does not look light blue, as usual in the Maldives. But it also has its own advantage - you can often meet turtles here. Little fish. We didn't see any baby sharks, nor manta rays. Overall a fantastic stay! Thank you to the smiling and truly kind staff at South Palm Resort!

My husband and I stayed at the resort for 1 week and celebrated his birthday at the resort and we were so glad that we did. We stayed in an over the water villa and it was so so lovely. We found all the staff so polite, hard working and thoughtful, nothing was too much trouble. From remembering your favourite drinks to giving you an umbrella for the rain, they always had everything covered allowing you just to relax and have a fab time! For my husbands birthday our table at the restaurant was decorated beautifully and on return from dinner our water villa had been beautifully decorated with a personalised cake for my husband. Stepping down from our villa to snorkel was just amazing ❤️ we also booked the excursion with the resort for a dolphin trip, snorkelling and a sunset cruise and shark feeding. The weather wasn’t great and when we were there but the staff would reschedule the trips round the weather the very best they could. When we did get out to see the dolphins it was truly breathtaking! Not to be missed. An extra shout out to Ali who was so, so lovely. He showed us round the resort, picking us up in the cart, taking photos and always sharing interesting stories along the way. A trip is what you make it, we love every minute and so ignore any negative reviews and have the best time ❤️ x
