The neighborhood is called Ausable Acres where each home is separated from its neighbors by trees thereby offering considerable privacy. The Acres has a lake, miles of trails for hiking or cross-country skiing and a picnic pavilion area. For fisherpersons, there is access to the Ausable river less than two miles away. Within three miles is a Top’s Supermarket, Stewart’s Gas and Convenience store, movie theatre, pizzeria and liquor store.The interior of the cabin is constructed with tongue and groove knotty pine throughout. The bedroom has a new queen size log bed. The bathroom is newly remodeled. There is a sitting area with a wood stove, kitchen, dining area, a desk with ample room for writing in your journal or laptop and an area with comfy chairs for just relaxing. The home has a three-zone electric heating system, so a wood fire is optional. There are two USB charging stations and high-speed internet. The kitchen has an electric cooktop, oven, microwave, refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker, electric tea kettle, dishes and lots of cookware that allow our guests to prepare a home cooked meal or breakfast. In warmer months enjoy relaxing on the front porch or cooking on the gas grill in the side yard which also has a picnic table. Our cabin is designed for one or two guests. There is a down-stairs living area that is comprised of a large bed-room that hosts a queen size bed, a futon (pull out full size bed) and an amish made rocker. Stairs leading to the downstairs bed-room/living area are complete with log rails & log gate for safety. Mountain Home has a covered porch with comfortable Adirondack Chairs plus an open deck to relax outdoors. There is an outdoor grill (bring your own charcoal) and fire pit (please keep fires small and contained). An outdoor hose is available. Soft sandy ground easily tracks through the home so please, we ask that you remove your shoes upon entering. Water is safe to drink. Septic system on property can handle toilet paper only. The Mountain Home is cleaned with all natural cleaners by (PUR Evergreen) products, Milliken, Co. Ausable Acres is a quiet neighborhood. Evening quiet hours are in place from 10pm to 7am. . As such, we have the expectation that our guests will honor the peace & quiet of the surrounding area. All the comforts of home, directly on the AuSable River! This 19th century building has 4 units, high ceilings, & tons of natural light. Unit 1 is located on the 1st floor. Each unit has shared access to the front yard, private fire pits overlooking the river & assigned off street parking space in the driveway for your vehicle. Wonderful, location with several local amenities & close to many Adirondack attractions.Centrally, located between Lake Placid & Plattsburgh, NY in the heart of Au Sable Forks on the main road to Wilmington (White Face), & Lake Placid. We’re directly on the East branch of the Au Sable River & walking distance to many things. Including, a shuttle to Lake Placid/Whiteface. Unit 1 is located on the first floor and has 2 beautifully decorated bedrooms & one office. Bedroom 1 has a double bed. The second bedroom is slightly smaller & also has a full size bed. The third room has a desk & daybed. The large living room/dining room features a comfortable sofa and love seat with a flat screen smart TV over a non working fireplace. Complimentary, coffee & tea is also available on the coffee bar. All units have an assigned off street parking space for 1 vehicle. Each unit has shared access to the yard, which faces the river and features outdoor seating and a fire pit. Firewood, will be provided for your convenience. From the yard you can take the short path down the bank to access the river. This building was originally constructed in the 1900’s & still has some of it’s original charm but has been recently updated.One small to medium dog (under 50lbs) is allowed in the unit & must be leashed at all times, while outside. Pets are not to be left alone in the apartment unless they are crated or outside during your stay. All poop must be bagged & discarded in the trash bin & we ask that you do not allow your pets on the furniture or to dig holes in the yard. In Wilmington, about a 10 minute car ride, there is a river front beach with volleyball court and picnic area. A bit further is the wonder of Lake Placid, about a 20 minute car ride, where you can browse the outlet stores and artisan shops and enjoy lake view delights and dining on Main Street. For a nice day trip, downtown Montreal is about a two hour car ride away. Other nearby activities in the winter are world class skiing at Whiteface Mountain, bobsled and tubing at the Mt. Van Hoevenberg Olympic Center, or ice skating and dog sleigh riding in Lake Placid. The River House is a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom chalet that sleeps 8, tucked away in the Ausable Acres in Jay, NY, right on the West Branch Ausable River. This cozy home is on a private, secluded lot, yet close to many of the Adirondack area attractions making it an ideal location to make your home base during your winter getaway in the Adirondacks.The Ausable Acres community is located in Jay, NY and is not far from several popular local destinations. Whiteface Mountain, the “greatest vertical drop east of the Rockies” is a short drive away. Lake Placid isn’t much farther and has great shopping and dining in addition to all of the Olympic history from hosting twice, including in 1980 for the Miracle on Ice victory. The property is also centrally located between Santa’s Workshop, the Covered Bridge in Jay, High Falls Gorge, Ausable Chasm & Mt. Von Hoevenberg.The main floor consists of a well-stocked kitchen (pots, pans, silverware, cooking utensils, drinking glasses, plates, mugs, wine glasses, bakeware, etc.) with a dishwasher and a brand new fridge, an open living room with a 70-inch 4K TV (please note the wood stove isn't functioning), a sunroom with a small dinette as well as some rocking chairs and a small sofa, a king bedroom with a TV and a full bathroom. The 2nd floor was completely remodeled this year with brand new flooring in both bedrooms (queen bed with a TV in the first and a queen over queen bunk in the second) along with a fully remodeled bathroom with a massive walk-in shower and jack & jill sinks. Jay covered bridge and swim holes are within walking distance.OUR HOME: Our renovated grandfather's home is located on 18 acres on a peaceful back road in Jay, NY. Relax on the deck overlooking the 180 degree views of the Adirondack High Peaks. Walk our trails in the woods behind our house or play in the yard (i.e., baseball and frisbee or sledding down the hill in the winter). Roast marshmallows over the fire in our fire pit in the woods (strict fire safety rules apply & no fires in drought seasons). Cross-country ski centers (Cascade/ADK and Mount Van Hoevenberg Complex) are a 20 minute drive away, and on our own property. Snow shoeing too.Lake Placid (home of the 1932 and 1980 Olympics) is less than 25 minutes away. Drive in the other direction to see the Ausable Chasm (10 minutes). *****Note*** September 2023***** Last spring we replaced the woodstove with a brand new unit. We recently replaced all of the beds with brand new frames, mattresses and box springs. We also upgraded the kitchen and now have a complete set of GreenPan Cookware. In case you've never heard of it, it's great stuff! Located at the end of a 150 foot driveway on a quiet road in “Ausable Acres”, the Cayuga Cabin provides a quiet getaway but is close to all the High Peaks attractions. If a half a dozen cars go by, thats a busy day. Pets are welcome.The Cayuga Cabin comes completely furnished for any length stay - full kitchen with great cookware, dishwasher and clothes washer/dryer, gas grill and even a whirlpool tub, located in the main bath, are on the premises. Two TV’s with cable make the Cayuga Cabin very family friendly. There are two bedrooms on the main floor, one with a queen, the other a double. There are two singles in the loft. Second full bath is in the basement. The Cayuga Cabin is a 5 minute walk to fishing access in the renowned West Branch of the Ausable River and 20 minutes to Whiteface Mountain, Santa’s Workshop and High Falls Gorge. The Olympic Village of Lake Placid is less than 25 minutes as is Ausable Chasm – the nation’s oldest natural attraction. Montreal, Quebec and Burlington, Vermont are easy day trips. The finest hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing and cross-country skiing in the High Peaks are all at your fingertips. When you come home from a day of Adirondack adventure relax on the spacious deck or in the whirlpool tub. Within the Ausable Acres development you have access to several hiking and cross-country skiing trails, tennis courts and the Lake Eaton Picnic & Playground area. For the golfer there are 6 courses ranging from 30 to 60 minutes away.10 minutes away is the “Jay swimming hole” on the East Branch of the Ausable River which was listed in Sports Illustrated as on of the top 10 swimming holes in the US.
