The Royal Hotel

We had a great stay in this Jedburgh hotel. The room we had was large with a really comfortable bed. The bathroom was clean and tidy with a large shower. Breakfast was good as well. The star of the show was the owner, Alec, he was very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. He made the stay very easy and enjoyable.

We arrived to find out the hotel was up for sale but the sale had fallen through. We felt the owner was a bit dishearted and had not read our requirements for our room. The room was big enough shower door was broken but was fixed the following day. Breakfast is a limited choice no fresh fruit or yogurt and very small glasses for juice cranberry or orange. The young girl was lovely and friendly taken the breakfast orders and ot was freshly cooked. The owner was friendly and welcomed us. I would say this hotel was more like a B&B . There is also no hot food allowed into your room.

I was on a hiking vacation in Scotland. I phoned the hotel in the morning to book a room for the following night. The man who answered (presumably the owner), after taking my credit card details, said I wasn’t allowed to take hiking boots in the room; fair enough, I said. But when in the late afternoon I arrived at the hotel after a 15 mile walk, I had completely forgotten, and moreover the girl at the reception said nothing about my boots. It was only later in my room that I remembered that I should have left them downstairs. So next morning, on departure, I walked downstairs carrying the boots in my hand, so as not to dirty the moquette, only to find the hotel owner with a dark face abusing me for having disobeyed his instructions. He even refused to listen to my explanations. I was treated like a misbehaving six-year-old by a hotel manager, after having paid him 95 pound for the night, and all because of a trivial misunderstanding regarding shoes. Never again!

We stayed here for one night on our way to Kelso races and we were very pleasantly surprised by our experience. Alex is a top man, very cheerful, informative and helpful and made the stay very special. The room was just what we needed and the breakfast in the morning was cooked beautifully cooked. Great place to stay at a very reasonable price.

Welcome: arrived slightly early and couldn't access building but plenty coffee shops in area. Once in a very lovely welcome and swift check in to a lovely double room, spotless with very clean bathroom. Tray had custard creams and ginger nuts a little treat 😊 Very comfortable night and breakfast with choices from night before was freshly cooked and above standard.

Great bed and breakfast. If you are looking a B&B with large rooms large shower great bed . Look no further Rooms were clean and a good breakfast which is ordered the night before. Alex is a very good host
