We were a group of 32 for a Sunday lunch. We pre-ordered our meals and it was great. Good menu, great meals reasonably priced and very friendly staff at a nice location out of town in a interesting Irish pub with an interesting history.

Mid-week mid June lunch visit - undersupply of advertised beer choices. Seafood chowder was tasty, tempura prawns also very good with nice variety of veggies in salad.

The hosts and food are sensational, there was a sold out fundraiser quiz when we stayed but the food service was still excellent considering how busy these guys were. The lamb special was probably one of the best lamb dishes I’ve ever had. Rooms are older style but charming and clean with a nice outlook. Only downside was no breakfast available on site however there are plenty of great options in town.

Well what started as a rainy miserable start to a well earned break turned out to be a fabulous time thanks to the amazing staff!! They were super busy but still had time for a chat with everyone. They made us feel so comfortable and made us laugh. Thanks James, you are doing a fabulous job making your ancestors proud! Pavlova-passionfruit odd lady:)

Sensational Irish Stew. Went to Donegal House for an evening meal on a Saturday night. It was obvious the place was popular. When I dropped into bookthe morning of, we were lucky as we were a table of 2 and squeezed us in. As it was a beautiful evening so we chose to dine outside instead of our table inside with the outook of well kept garden. The Irish Stew was superb as good as you get in Ireland in a really nice rich gravy and tender meat. Yummo!!

Our group of three had a delightful meal at Donegal House. Friendly staff greeted us and were attentive to our dining needs The food was fantastic! We ordered fish and chips, Irish stew and the house salad. For dessert we had the sticky date pudding which was luscious. The establishment is well lit and cheerful. Appeared very clean and well run. We enjoyed looking at the photos and information regarding the Irish settlers who came to the Kaikoura area. We were fascinated by the tree that is now inside the restaurant. We noticed that locals were also dining here, which is always a good sign that the food will most likely be delicious. We unanimously recommend dining at the Donegal House!

the new owners have made such a great improvement to this place very nice irish touch glad it's back in the family again food was very good history well presented excellent piece of kaikoura history also now camping ground and motel style accommodation

We have just spent the night in this wonderful Irish hotel, the food and service was brilliant and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely comfortable room, and it was very reasonably priced. Got to meet and chat with the owners and found them really great. Will be back again for sure.

The service was poor. Pork belly nice but too much fat on the meat and not enough crackling, Irish stew filling but little flavour. However deserts good but too much crumble on the apple crumble. Not really value for money, but good average pub meals in lovely setting. We rated from experience as hotel manager.
