I heard so much about the meals at Paddy's Restaurant (Exchange Hotel, Kalgoorlie), so I thought I would try the "600gm Rib-Eye Steak", cooked Medium - Rare, priced at $65.00. I've eaten Rib-Eye at many pubs and have never been disappointed - till two days ago! It came to the table full of promise! The steak was huge, the chips looked inviting, and the salad was well-presented. All in all, full of promise, as I said. It was served with a steak knife, as one would expect, but, sad to say, the knife was pretty useless. Apart from a tiny portion of meat in the "eye" of the steak, the serration was challenged by the sinew and gristle that made up the bulk of the cut of meat. So, what was advertised as a 600gm steak was, in fact, around 200gm of edible meat!! The chips were great, and the salad was delicious, so that was a positive. When the waitress came to clear our plates from the table, she asked me what the problem was with my steak. I said that the steak, or what I could eat of it, was fine, but the rest was inedible. She said she would pass that on to the kitchen staff, but if that's the quality of food they serve up to the table, then they must have heard it all before. So please avoid the steaks there. In fact, avoid any beef selection on the menu. One of the other diners in my group complained about the Beef Noodle Salad she ordered a couple of months before. That too was disappointingly inedible. So, if you decide to go to Paddy's for a meal, order chicken, lamb, pork, pasta or vegetarian, but stay away from the bee
