Liyya Water Villas

Lake front villas are the best. Rooms are spacious but need maintenance. WiFi was not working throughout the resort, the staff mentioned that they are working on upgrading WiFi. Food was tasteless for us but could change based on your taste pallet.

Review Pros • nice architecture from the outside. Inside , not so nice. Towels and bedsheet at a tad jaded. Cons • Poor service. You need to remind staff 2-3 times to get what you ask for (e.g., hot water, coffee, or smaller change). • buffet dinner is served cold. Even tho we showed up at 7.30pm when the restaurant just opened. • Despite the restaurant being only 20% full, service is slow and inefficient. You don’t get what you request and you need to remind them again and again. Do stay at any place but not here.

Highly recommend this place to anyone. The staff were friendly and courteous. The food was authentic and delicious. The staff were so kind that they facilitated a beautiful dinner for the teens and pre teens, incorporating steaks and western food. The children loved the authentic local cuisine the same. Hygiene was excellent.

Located on the edge of a forest, this beautiful place offered us a good stay in their water villas. The ambience is good. Villas are huge with very few amenities. Wi-Fi doesn’t work in the villas and we had to work from the reception area. Restaurant for breakfast and dinner was spacious. Food quality is good. Above all I would like to make a special mention about the front office staff, Kanishka and Chandana for their committed work ethics and helpful nature. Last but not least, Mahinder in the restaurant was an exceptional character, very helpful and suggesting the dishes we should try. We booked into Liyya Water Villa’s for 5 nights in July with high expectations for the opportunity to relax for a day or two after a busy holiday. On first impressions the villas are in an idyllic but very remote location which could be very peaceful. Without any prior notice, we were subject to building work being completed in public areas. 3 feet away from the swimming pool/sunbeds and staff telling us they would be just unloading the truck, then half an hours work which after 2 hours they were still there. To then being told they would be 20mins. While this work was being done there was wood constantly being sawed, drilling and staple gunning. The men were video calling. Which in my swimwear made me very uncomfortable by the pool. Alongside this the showers in our room were freezing cold and the internet didn’t work which made planning and booking anything for our trip impossible from our room or reception. The food was average at best with little to no choice for breakfast. Which would make it very difficult if you were intolerant/vegetarian or vegan. Because of the remote location and area there is very little choice for food locally. So you are stuck at the restaurant in an evening again with little choice and one food menu per table, no matter your table size. With no drinks menu. Liyya has the potential to be wonderful but has a long way to go to be 5 stars. We were promised a refund for the 3 nights that we didn’t stay. And in October we are still waiting for our money back.

We had a group booking for about 55 people at Liyya Water Villa in Dambulla on June 8th and 9th, 2024, to celebrate our office's 10th anniversary. Our stay was wonderful, and we’re so glad we picked this place for our special celebration. The food was amazing, with a great variety, and everything tasted delicious. The restaurant manager was very professional and helpful, making sure we had everything we needed. The front desk staff were also friendly and flexible. They gave us a warm welcome, which made us feel special right from the start. Thank you to the Liyya team for making everything so easy and enjoyable. I highly recommend Liyya Water Villa for anyone looking for a great place to stay with excellent food and service.
