The Royal Kandyan

The Royal Kandiyan hotel boasts a prime location on the main road, affording seamless access to Kandy Lake and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth relic. Regrettably, my stay was marred by a malfunctioning air conditioning unit, which remained unresolved despite prompt reporting, although partially alleviated by the provision of a pedestal fan. The rooms are spacious and meticulously maintained. Following an issue with the bathroom door locking automatically, I notified the staff, who promptly addressed the matter. We had the pleasure of attending a captivating Sri Lankan dance and fire show in the hotel's cellar. The dinner service impressed with its diverse array Srilankan, Indian and Continental cuisine, and the breakfast spread met our expectations, resulting in overall satisfaction despite some isolated inconveniences.

One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Rooms,beds,linens,etc are dated and worn out. Our rooms (3) had a terrible smell in them, like sewage. We were moved to other rooms the next day which were no better. Our room had stains in the carpet, stains on walls ….possibly mold ? The safes in the rooms were unbolted and could be carried out. Want a shower? Run the water for about 10 mins to get hot water. We were told the hotel was being renovated ….one room at a time!!! Dinner was buffet with luke warm food served. When I told the chef, he proceeded to warm my food in the microwave. Half the warming dishes were not operational and staff were unaware of it. Staff looked busy without accomplishing even the basic service in a timely manner. In the dining room, they hovered around guests who were purchasing liquor. The rest had to fend for themselves. I have worked in hotels for 15 years plus and this type of service and poor state of rooms would not be acceptable in any hotel claiming to be 4 star. NOT even 2 star rating Very poor management overall although the general manager was very amicable.
