Zuri Zanzibar

We visited Zuri for 5 nights at the end of our South Africa / Zanzibar honeymoon. It’s paradise in terms of the design, accommodation (specifically the evening breeze bed system) vegetation and stunning private beach. It was the perfect way to relax after safari. The food was very good considering it is generally a buffet format; especially breakfast with so much fresh variety. The hotel amenities were great and never felt too busy - we enjoyed the 32m length pool, daily yoga, the beach beds and hammocks and a snorkelling experience via the Wimbi sports centre (although 5/6 hours are spent on a slow sail boat - not suitable for those who experience sea sickness!) While our experience was overall 5/5, we had a frustrating experience with the spa. We booked a honeymoon massage but received a much shorter couples massage and were not easily able to resolve the misunderstanding with the spa staff or hotel management from an experience or cost perspective (considering the spa charges London prices, this was highly disappointing).

Amazing hotel with great services. Friendly and well trained staff. Food was delucious, especially at Bahari beach bar. The most beautilf beach at Zanzibar. Klara, Front office manager was absolutely fantastic and did amazing job. I hope we will come back.

Zuri exceeded our expectations in so many ways on our recent trip. From the moment we stepped feet in the property, we were welcomed as valued guests by every single one of the staff we encountered. There was attention to detail in each interaction. Rukia was the first member of staff to greet us (by name). We knew within a matter of seconds that we had made the right decision in choosing this hotel, essentially due to the welcome she gave. The resort is nothing short of paradise, and there is not one aspect we would have changed about our stay... The food, the restaurants, the beach, the beautiful hotel grounds, the spacious and luxurious rooms (and beautiful, comfortable beds), the level of cleanliness, the vibe and the energy of the entire resort, were all outstanding. The guests were all great, all seemed so happy - I think this brushed off from the staff. We really appreciated and enjoyed the varied and vast choice of activities available, mostly at no extra cost - we stayed in the resort for 9 nights and could have easily stayed for longer - we were in fact incredibly sad to be leaving when it came to our last day. Despite all of the above attributes of the physical hotel and resort, the people that work here are the reason we truly fell in love with Zuri. Each one of them was friendly, attentive, informative, inspiring - we are seasoned travellers and I cannot think of a hotel globally that rivals the level of unmatched service we received; from the garden staff, to the cleaning staff, to the Masaai working on the resort, to the management - every single member of the Zuri team plays their part in making this place exceptional, first class. We encountered so many people that made this such a happy trip, on a daily basis. Special mention goes to Jackline, Amina and Pia, who put a smile on our face daily at breakfast, with their excellent service, memorisation of our exact orders, and their wit and humour. On the beach, we became accustomed to speaking to Francis, Juma, and Ali (as well as a few other members of staff who we saw less frequently, like the excellent barman who made my daily Pina Colada - exceptional). I miss our daily, late morning coconuts - always fresh and cold. We loved the beach and this was a result of their care, great banter, and the huge efforts they made to make us feel looked after. Equally, Peter, Prince, Malik, and Ernest were the best dinner hosts, in Upendo and Maisha - each one superb at their individual role and dedicated to making everyone's time with them the best it could be - we also very much enjoyed speaking to all of the cooks and kitchen staff - each one of them was so happy to see us and made our meal times so special each night! Special shout to Sunday from Maisha and to one of the lead chefs in Upendo (who made sure I avoided nuts each night). Very nice Hotel/Resort, makes you feel at home the second you walk in. Professional staff, friendly and always present. The rooms are very clean and equiped with the finest services you can wish for. Food is great in all of the available restaurants, with a breakfast buffet and service that is just amazing. Lots of options for sport activities on the beach. Overall a great place to spend a great vacation!

The best thing about Zuri is definitely the pool, which is great - overlooking the beach, almost empty most of the time, very spacious (and not some weird shape - ideal for swimming laps), and the perfect temperature - not too hot to swim, not too cold to lounge. The beach is reasonably nice as you enter it, but majorly, majorly spoiled by the truly hideous view to the right of it (which you won't see in any of the advertised photos of course), which overlooks a massive concrete construction site. Yuck. The beach is a lot nicer in the other direction, but quickly becomes very touristy if you go for a walk that way, and you'll also get approached by people trying to sell you stuff. Overall a bit of a let down. My room (55, in the "Ginger" section) was just OK - no bathtub, which is pretty disappointing for the price. I think the room areas closer to the pool / beach are a bit more convenient so if you're going, ask which ones they are and request one of them ("Lemongrass" was one of them). The resort has a very family feel to it, so if you're a solo traveller like me looking for a quiet island paradise this isn't really the place.

We spent 4 nights at Zuri for a girlfriend’s 40th birthday. The resort property is beautiful. However, there are a few items of concern. 1) our AC in the room did not work. When we brought it to the attention of the manager we were told it was because we turned it off. They brought us a fan and said it was fixed. Offered to move our room, but why would we since it was “fixed.” Night 2, the AC was not fixed. It was so hot in the room, I had to take a shower in the middle of the night to sleep. Day 3 the engineer came, fixed the AC. 2) The resort was out of all white wine except Chardonnay. Super disappointing. 3) The food is a buffet every other night. I feel for the price the food should be better. Finally, the restaurant managers, waiters (Juma) and waitresses (Safina) and bar tenders were amazing! My recommendation is if you do stay at Zuri and have an issue resolve the bill before you leave. We asked for a reduction in our room because we didn’t have proper AC for 2 days and 2 nights and were told no because they offered us a fan and to move rooms(although they told us it was fixed).
